Tromsø's Hidden Gem: Bardus Bistro – The Undisputed Champion!

One of cosiest restaurants in all of Tromsø, if not the cosiest! Eating locally sourced fresh arctic fish is more than just a necessity in Tromsø, it’s practically a bucket list activity. Japan imports this fish to use in their high end sushi for a reason! And yet despite this, it’s not as easy to come across as you might think, with the majority of such establishments that serve it around the city verging on fine dining in both atmosphere and price. Bradus is the perfect middle ground. It is by no means cheap but is still very accessible, and its incredibly friendly staff, warm and cosy interior, and beautifully crafted dishes will leave you wanting to go back for a second visit. I ate the steamed halibut, after a lovely starter of cured salmon. Both were exceptional, and were complimented with a lovely selection of quirky vegetables, appealing colours, and most importantly, contrasting flavours. My partner could not eat fish and so settled on lamb ribs, which to our surprise was so good that it may even have trumped the fish! The house red and deserts were excellent too. This is the first place I would recommend to anybody who had just one evening in the city. But be sure to book earlier in the day is it fills up fast!

This place is everything a restaurant should be! A cosy & comfortable vibe, amazing staff and most importantly, fantastic food! We were visiting Tromso and this was on our list of restaurants to try. Since my partner is vegetarian and there's no vegetarian section on the menu, the chef put together something simple and delicious. The lovely staff helped us pair our food with great wine as well. We were so moved by the friendly staff (Christina and Joanna) and so mind blown by the food that we decided we HAVE to have another meal there before we left Tromso. The second meal was another hit out of the park! I will forever recommend this place to people visiting Tromso, I tried the moose meat balls, fish of the day (dried cod), roasted potato dish (off menu), beetroot barley rissoto (off menu), brown cheese icecream and chocolate fondant. but i reckon everything on the menu will be fantastic because the chefs seem to understand food deeply. All in all, this might be the best and the most original food I have ever eaten in a restaurant. This place has a piece of me.

Visited this restaurant once, amidst heavy snow. They had a coat hanger and a place to hold luggage. Reservations are a must; people who walked in were turned away because they were full. The menu was not extensive, with one or two options for soup, main courses, and dessert but quality food. Salmon was the best we ever eaten, very tender and fresh. First time trying reindeer steak and it was not as gamey and tough as we expected it to be. Texture is similar to a beef steak and was very flavourful as well. Staff member Emmanuelle was very friendly, gave us a menu introduction, and informed us about the day's fish. She periodically checked if we were enjoying our meal. Emmanuelle was accomodative to our request for iced tea although it wasnt on the menu and was very friendly with good knowledge of the menu. The café had a very homely ambience. We enjoyed the experience and food so much during lunch that we made another dinner reservation three days later! Highly recommended!

We decided to eat out on our last evening in Tromsø, and we definitely chose the right restaurant! First and foremost, the staff was the sweetest staff in the world! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ We had a French girl 🇫🇷 and an Argentinian guy 🇦🇷 as our waiters, and they were absolutely lovely 😍 They were so kind and attentive to our needs! And really made us feel welcome 🤗 Secondly, the food was absolutely amazing 🤩 We ordered reindeer steak 🦌, mussles and fries 🐚🍟and for dessert; brown cheese panna cotta. My personal favorite was definitely the mussels, they were incredibly delicious 😋🤤 Little pro tip, this is a really busy restaurant, so would definitely recommend to reserve in advance! We did not do that and we're really lucky to get a table. Next time we are in Tromsø, we are definitely coming back! Au revoir and adiós sweet staff! Hope to see you again in some years! With kind regards from Danish/Belgian guy 🇩🇰/🇧🇪 and Indonesian girl 🇮🇩

We travel quite a bit. The food here was absolutely amazing! I had the reindeer stew. It was my first time eating reindeer. Excellent! They put these cranberries sauces on the mashed potatoes and it's the perfect combination of savory and sweet. I had to leave a review for these guys. I'll come back before we leave our vacation for sure! And compliments to the chef! Well done. My wife had the burger. She's gluten free. That burger was amazing. They were very accommodating to listen to her allergies and her questions even though the restaurant was full of people. The service was above reproach. If you're in the Tromso area, I highly recommend this restaurant. So thankful a local told me about it. Steine is it amazing server! She listened very carefully to my wife's allergy concerns it took very good care of her and us. You really should eat here. Just saying ~ A satisfied American tourist
