The waitress was so racist! We entered the cafe and asked for a table of 3, and she said that the cafe was full. However, the cafe had 2 levels, which was not made known to us. And there were actually many seats on top, but we were unaware and thought the restaurant was full so we decided to try another place.
However, just as we were about to leave the place, a kind local having his coffee there moved to a smaller table so that we could have a table of 4 (thank you kind man :)). So we had a seat, and the waitress looked visibly disappointed that we managed to get a seat. Anyways, we ordered our food without much thought.
Then soon came another group of 3 locals who asked for a table of 3. She immediately told them to head up to level 2. Me and my friends were visibly confused as to why she told us there were no seats left and told us to find another place but meanwhile, she readily told the locals that there were seats upstairs (note that there was no one who left the restaurant after we came in).
Afterwards, 2 other groups of 3-4 pax of locals came in and requested for seats as well. I saw her giving me the side eye as I was just staring at her in disbelief at the racism experienced. Again, she told the 2 groups of locals that there were seats upstairs. At this point in time, I was really upset and disappointed at the service of this waitress. We were just a group of tourists who were finding a nice brunch place to dine at, and this kind of racism was simply uncalled for.
It’s a pity that I did not manage to take a look at her name tag, but she was working on 22 Feb, 11am. To the waitress: I hope that you will learn from this and be kind to others, treat others as how you would want to be treated.
Aside, food was decent but took long to serve. We requested nicely for her to clear our plates as we were done with the main meal and our pancakes were about to be served. Well, it was done very clumsily and she dropped the utensils on the table (not sure if it was intentional or accidental) but some of the sauce spilled on my friend's clothes.
Locals dining in the cafe were nice, but the service of this particular waitress really dampened our morning. Never thought that racism would be a thing in Tromso as every local that we've met were really friendly and kind to us. This was just 1...
Read moreThe food is surprisingly delicious here. I say that because, at the current rating, I wasn't sure what to expect. It's not as high as one would like, I suppose.
That said, we tried the duck salad and the chicken BLT for lunch. Both were really great. Far, far better than I expected and belies the current rating his place has.
If anything, the only disappointment was probably the young server who seemed a little absent-minded and not sure how to juggle more than a few things at once. He was also quite late delivering the menus to us after we had sat down (by at least 5 minutes).
That aside, the food was really good and well put together, so kudos to the chef behind the scenes working that culinary magic for the customers. I'd definitely come back, if...
Read moreThe Reindeer Burger and the Brown Cheese & Blackberry dessert were very good. The burger also came with a slice of brown cheese, which has a sweet, caramel taste as it is made from cooked down whey. The dessert was surprisingly good as the heated brown cheese gave it some extra sweetness. My only negatives are that there are only 2 items on the dessert menu and one of them wasn’t available (Apple Cake with caramel), how hard is it to make sure you always have the 2 items available! The second was that the clearing and cleaning of the tables was a bit lax. The place wasn’t that busy at 6.15pm on a Monday night, so it wouldn’t have been hard for the staff to wipe the tables and clear the glasses. There is good indoor and outdoor...
