"During our birthday lunch at Tong Yang SM City Baguio on April 9th, we encountered several service issues. Despite confirming our reservation for 4-5 people, firstly, the restaurant’s PWD accessibility was lacking, and the staff’s assistance was inconsistent. I was told that customers should use the front doors when coming in; I apologize since my companions went directly to the veranda. Secondly, we were uncomfortably squeezed into a cramped table meant for four, despite being a party of five. It seemed that if we were two separate groups, we would have been allowed to occupy two tables. This arrangement was not ideal for our family celebration. Thirdly, the service continued to disappoint when a soup we ordered was abruptly declared unavailable and I noticed that the adjacent table had also ordered the same soup. It seems the female waiter lacked the foresight to inform customers of the menu’s unavailable items before making our selections. Fortly, the outdoor seating and crampled seating arrangement exposed us to dense cooking fumes, and our request to activate the exhaust was denied due to safety concerns. We tolerate the fumes and respected their response. The availability of having ready-to-eat food while waiting for the other items to be cooked is a convenience; however, the cooked shellfish were mostly empty, and the mixed tempura consisted predominantly of fried sweet potatoes. We raised these issues with the staff Lastly ,our birthday guest was not acknowledged with the customary cake—a courtesy we observed being extended to others. Before leaving, I sought to provide feedback on this oversight and requested a form to express my concerns but was instead directed to a QR code. My subsequent message to the restaurant received a dismissive ‘OKAY.’ I then expressed my hope that their oversight was not intentional. They later explained that the delay in birthday acknowledgments was due to a high volume of celebrants and that cakes were freshly baked. Nevertheless, it was disconcerting to be overlooked, especially after informing them of their missed opportunity to celebrate with us. Our overall experience did not meet our expectations. We kindly suggest that future services be more attentive to special occasions, ensuring a memorable and comfortable experience for all guests, regardless of the restaurant’s busyness or any noted shortcomings. We believe that the true value lies in the quality of service, which significantly impacts the overall experience beyond any complimentary...
Read moreThis recent visit was disappointing due to one particular interaction with a staff member who kind of resembles Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. My dad was the one who spoke to the front desk for the reservation since we arrived late. As we started picking food from the buffet, we noticed there was no meat, which confused us since it was available during our previous visit so we thought maybe it was served separately. My bf simply asked this staff where the meats were. He responded with something like,“Hindi po ba kayo na-inform?” (referring to the front desk). Of course we were confused, informed about what? I explained that we weren’t the ones who made the reservation. But he just kept repeating na hindi ba kami informed and tanungin nalang daw namin yung nagpareserve.😭 It was so frustrating coz why couldn’t HE just answer the SIMPLE question??? A simple “Ay maam wala pong meat.” Period. We were also surprised to hear the staff say something along the lines of “hindi yung nagagalit kayo jan” when we were just confused and trying to clarify things.
Anyway the seafood was a bit too fishy, lots of options but honestly pretty meh. Desserts were nice. Quality and price wise, there are a lot of buffets WAY WAY WAY better than this istg like Dojjang, JunglesSam, JungleTown, and...
Read moreTongyang offers a truly delightful dining experience! The buffet boasts a fantastic selection of fresh, flavorful dishes, including incredibly tender meats and vibrant vegetables. The variety is impressive, ranging from satisfyingly large portions of hot pot and grill options to a delightful array of juices, coffee, and lattes. The dessert station is a highlight, with a wide selection of freshly baked cakes, halo-halo, ice cream, macaroni salad, and cupcakes. The overall quality of the food is excellent, though we were disappointed that the beef was sold out. Service was equally impressive, with attentive and friendly staff. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. While the beef was a miss, it's still a superb choice for a family-friendly or group gathering. Highly recommended, but be aware that popular items may sell...
