We had a dinner catch-up at Sourdough Cafe and it’s an interestingly small space a few mins walk away from Greenbelt mall.

What went well: -Reservation was easy and smooth (they’re very responsive)

-The staff are very attentive and professional

-The menu had an interesting variety of food and drinks

-The place was smaller than what I expected but it’s classy and the ambience will suit intimate catch-ups or gatherings

-The unli sangria deal for 2 hours was worth it for somebody who loves alcohol like me

-The cinco chocolate cake was good. I normally favor and order dark chocolate cakes, but I would love to eat a slice of that cake again.

-The live music they had was wonderful, perfect for the ambience.

What can still be improved:

-They don’t have other milk options other than full cream milk. Some people are allergic to full cream milk.

-They are using Bel Air wine for unli Bordeaux and it’s not necessarily what I expected. But it’s going to be okay for people who are not as picky as me (to be fair with the unli deal)

Expectations:

-If you want to catch-up but you know that your crowd can be a little too loud, this place is not the best place for you unless your group is occupying the whole area exclusively.

Being mindful of the people around you is something you should consider given the space between tables (indoor).

-If you’re on a tight budget, best check the menu prices in advance. Because their food and drinks are in the higher tier.

You should prepare at least 1,500 and above if you want to experience an unli wine or sangria order with a single meal.

-The carbonara is fine but on the creamy style of cooking. This appeals to the taste of most Filipinos. The bacon though that comes with it was yummy and crispy!

Overall it was a pleasant and nice experience and we will definitely come back for more unli sangria after recovering from...

TLDR: Could've eaten a more satisfying meal elsewhere. I would come back though for their bread and dessert.

Details: Was very hopeful to try out to the mains and dessert after dropping by previously for their sourdough bread (it's good!)

I was disappointed with the pasta dishes my friend and I ordered. Both were lackluster in character and monotonous that it was starting to be a chore once you were halfway. Not that the carbonara tasted bad, but it was boring like something I would be able to prepare at home. The squid ink pasta was a lot of seafoodness from the thick sauce with generous clams and shrimps naman but the monotony will hit you halfway or less. For the price, I wish they could have amped up the dishes or maybe it was wrong of us to get a plate each and we should've just shared one to avoid the umay.

Chiperones appetizer/tapas was tasty but on the oily side. The chopped garlic was the hero. Went well with some slices of bread that we ordered as an add on to scoop up the oil and garlic along with the small squid. Would've been nice if they served it with that to begin with.

Had basque cheesecake as dessert. It was nice and moist at the center but also would be enough to share.

The meal set us back almost Php3000 (with service charge) including one glass of wine each.

They have happy hour and live music which may be nice to try but not coming back soon...

A Disappointing Experience at Our Go-To Catch-Up Spot

My friends and I consider Sourdough our absolute "go-to tita place" for catching up, it’s always been a reliably good spot for us. Usually, the service is great, and that's a big part of why we keep coming back.

However, my visit today, November 6th, was unfortunately a complete letdown. I came in alone right after a minor medical procedure. I wasn't feeling great and was visibly recovering, I had a face mask on and cotton balls from injections. All I wanted was a bit of comfort food to help me feel better.

Instead, I was faced with rudeness from the cashier. The restaurant was noisy, and I had trouble understanding what she was saying. When I asked her to repeat herself, her reaction was to rudely respond to me in a pabalagbag way.

There is absolutely no excuse for being rude to customers, regardless of the noise level or any misunderstanding. A little kindness goes a long way. This kind of interaction completely overshadowed the comfort food I was hoping for.

I truly hope Sourdough takes customer service seriously and provides better training for their staff. As loyal customers, we expect better, and it's disappointing to have an experience like this at a place we otherwise love. I’d still recommend it but I hope they take the feedback of people about bad customer service (I saw a few...

Sourdough in Makati surprised us with its cozy ambiance, despite its compact space. The wine selection caught our eye, though we opted for coffee this time. We tried the Ube cafe latte, cappuccino, matcha, cortado, pastrami SD sandwich, granchi e gamberi, and the new menu addition, cinnamon bread. Unfortunately, the Ube cafe latte didn't live up to its name, lacking the expected ube flavor and latte art finesse. The cortado was decent but could use some improvement. The matcha and cappuccino left us puzzled, with the latter resembling a Spanish latte without foam. Sourdough's ambiance is perfect for coffee and wine, but the coffee itself needs some refining. We hope they elevate their coffee game soon. The pastrami SD sandwich was sizable but a tad dry; it would benefit from a dip or more condiments. On the bright side, the Granchi e Gamberi stole the show - a must-try! We're eager to explore more of their pasta offerings. The cinnamon bread was a delightful surprise, not overly sweet, which we appreciated. Sourdough is an ideal spot for a leisurely afternoon to evening hangout, and they also sell bread, which we regretfully forgot to purchase on our way out. Parking is convenient with street parking available.
