On a constant quest to find Manila’s best tacos and Taco-Mata definitely ranks high up there!
We got to try all their awesome tacos and none of them disappoint — seriously, each one was absolutely delicious!
The best sellers are best sellers for a reason:
The Harlem Taco was my favourite because it not only offered a huge and juicy bite but had the best balance of flavor and medley of various textures to enjoy.
The Soho Taco was my 2nd pick because of the way this played around with different layers: from the crunchy piknik-like potato strings to the perfectly tender steak — just wow.
The L.E.S. was another fave because of that distinctly sweet and smoky flavor you get from the charsiu pork combined with crunchy peanuts.
The Fulton had fish battered and cooked to perfection. Complemented very well with that tangy sauce and a squeeze of lime.
Finally, The Village, though vegan, still gave a wonderful kick of flavor and gusto. A mix of sweet, salty, tangy, and savory — this is something I don’t mind having again.
Only thing I would’ve wanted would be the option to dine indoors especially with how hot and humid it is outside, plus the mosquitos that are out to feast on you too (haha).
Can’t wait to see what else Taco-Mata has in store for the all the takaw matas out...

Read moreHere’s the thing, TacoMata created the LES as a simple homage to the various pork bun (bao) places of New York City’s Lower East Side (Bao House and Momofoku, to name a few). What they did not expect to do is giving the pork belly such a deep respect and umph that made their version of this signature New York dish better. The portion size and how delicately they prepared the belly is on point. Making it in a taco form? That’s creativity. The pickled vegetables had enough acid to cut through the richness of the pork. The peanuts, sugar and green sauce gave more depth to the flavor! We were privileged to taste it on our last trip to Manila. Coming back to New York, we had the cravings and visited the bao places that we love. Guess what? We started missing Taco Mata and...
