After hearing a lot of buzz about this place, I finally decided to give their dumplings a try, and I must say, they’ve easily become my favorite in town. The dumplings were absolutely delicious—each bite was packed with flavor and had the perfect balance of seasoning. The filling was fresh and tasted like it was made with high-quality ingredients, which really elevated the overall experience. The wrappers were delicate but held up perfectly, creating a satisfying texture that complemented the filling.
That being said, one downside I wasn’t thrilled about is that the restaurant is now takeout-only. This wasn’t always the case—before the pandemic, they offered dining-in options, which I really enjoyed. But like many others, they shifted to a takeout model after the pandemic, and it seems they’ve stuck with that ever since. It’s a bit of a letdown for those of us who love the option of sitting down and enjoying a meal in the restaurant’s cozy atmosphere. Still, I completely understand the shift, given the current circumstances.
Despite the takeout-only situation, the food itself was incredibly fresh. Everything was packed neatly, and the dumplings still had that just-made quality even after the short ride home. They’re definitely a go-to for when I’m craving dumplings, and I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them again.
Overall, while I miss the option to dine in, the quality of the dumplings is still top-notch and well worth it. It’s clear that the place puts a lot of care into their food, and I can’t recommend it enough if you’re in the mood for some of the best dumplings in town. Just make sure you’re ready for a...
Read moreOne of my most favorite places to satisfy my ever so insatiable cravings for dumplings. The little wonderful dough wrappers filled with juicy-sumptuous mix of kuchai and ground pork and then steamed, fried or boiled for a few minutes in steaming hot water. Simply heavenly! Dumplings are my absolute favourites and one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to food. Here at Dong Bei, everything is so transparent and simple yet simply satisfying. Its a small restaurant which cannot accommodate more than 8-10 diners at a time. You will see the ladies kneading the dough, rolling the small dough balls into wrappers and then wrap them up with the sumptuous filling mixture inside them, all in front of you at one of the tables. When you place the order for the dumplings, they will simply pick the freshly wrapped dumplings and steam/boil them for you and serve it hot. You then simply enjoy them with the 2 different dips available. I personally love the chilly sauce. It doesn't get any fresher and real than that. I simply love it. We had two servings of kuchai dumplings and 1 serving of fried pan cakes and a coke zero. Pan cakes are basically the same thing as dumplings but they use bigger dough ball and filling. Then seal it up and roll it into a flat circular disc. Then pan fry it. Very much like the Indian stuffed parantha. It is delicious too. We paid around 600PHP for that. To sum it up, definitely go here for the food and the experience. Do not expect much from the ambience, if that affects you. For me, I do not mind it at all. Super...
Read moreWhen in Binondo, Dong Bei Dumpling is a sure food stop for foodies. This small dumpling place have made a name when in comes to its kuchay dumplings in Binondo area. Imagine rising over above all the chinese restaurant in the area. They key to Dong Bei is their dumplings are freshly made. When you enter their store you will see 3-4 staff busy making dumplings on one of the table. Sanitation wise it was a bit off but hell to that Binondo doesn’t care about sanitation hahaha. When we visited it was jampacked lucky we were able to get a table immediately. There were a lot of binondo tour groups waiting outside. I think this is also one of the reason why they gained popularity. Lucky place guranteed customer haha.
We ordered the Kuchay Dumplings just for 180PHP. Another secret of the place very cheap food. Honestly when I tried the dumplings I really don’t get what was all the hype about. It was a simple kuchay dumpling that I used to get outside of my highschoool. Taste and texture wise it was really good but sorry nothing special for a chinese guy like me hahaha.
Overall if I’m around the area I will visit the place again but this place is not something I think worth the hassle travelling for the sole purpose of eating kuchay. But again if you are around...
