Alon Cafe was okay. The beachfront dining area was nice and lively, the service was good, but the food was just alright. Maybe I was expecting more because Chef Sau del Rosario’s name is attached to it but we were a bit disappointed. Ordered the Binagoongan and the Spicy Squid. Both serving sizes were average (shared by two). The Binagoongan didn’t have nearly enough Bagoong fishiness and saltiness, and the crispy pork portion was measly, they had to include fried eggplant in an attempt to make the dish a bit heartier. The pork and eggplant weren’t well- seasoned, and the sunny side up egg didn’t really help. I barely got the creaminess out of it because the rice portion was too much for the viand—and it wasn’t “bagoong-tasting” enough to make up for it. The Spicy Squid on the other hand was okay.
