We have been coming here every time we’re in Gdansk. So 3-4 times a year for about 6-8 years.
It’s one of our favorite places in gdansk and until now the best Sushi experience in the city.
We have noticed a decline in service, presentation and especially morale (attitude) of the personell the last couple of times we came here. From what we could gather the management has changed recently (last 1-2yrs) and I guess it’s going straight downhill now.
The food took forever. The personell was agitated and stressed and completely new faces one again. Before the new management we recognized the personell and they us, because they worked there long term.
I guess now the working environment reflects the fluctuating and honestly the guest seem to notice. It was friday night yesterday when we visited. A time that usually is packed. All tables occupied. But not this time, we came in and there was like 20-30% occupancy. Alarming and sad that one of our favorite places might be gone soon.
Food: As I said the food took forever. My Tuna (requested as medium rare/rate) came out well done. But not only that, the presentation was without any heart. Usually there are granite serving platters with decorations. The different rolls of sushi neatly arranged and not touching each other. The Rolls yesterday were crammed into deep dishes. No decorations, no love and most importantly different rolls all crammed together, blending their individual tastes into a mush.
Service: Empty dishes and bottles weren’t cleared. New water bottles ordered were brought but empty ones weren’t cleared. There was a problem with the nigiris. They were served with wasabi already spread under the salmon. When we politely asked to change that we were very unpleasantly schooled that „this is how nigiris are always made“. We know they are not, because the dozens of times we’ve ordered them in the past, they weren’t!
Unprompted hostility reflects on a hostile working environment, so I‘m not even disappointed by the waitress. Instead I urge her boss to reflect on his/her leadership skills, because we lead by example. If you‘re toxic and hostile, which You most certainly are (otherwise the employees would be like they always been: happy, attentive and polite) then there is no wonder the place is going downhill fast.
In conclusion: The food is still decent but far from being worth the price. If the Restaurant restores its former quality of food and service then it’s definitely worth it! Service is exceptionally bad and there is a mandatory service charge of 10% of the bill. In the past I usually tipped around 15-20% here. I guess they noticed a decline in tips and made them mandatory on the bill (without any disclaimer!!!) Honestly for the service we received yesterday even the 10% tip is too high!
If nothing changes this will be one of our last times visiting this restaurant. Which makes us pretty sad. because it’s one of ours and our kids highlights of gdansk. We‘ll give it another shot next time we visit this amazing city but if it’s still the same or even...
Read moreThat was number one place on my list for years, I was there twice a month and it was always top of the top. Since few good weeks everything has changed, the spicy seafood soup does not taste like before (over all years I always ate this soup for start, always), moreover last time I was not able to finish sushi - it was not even close to the sushi which I used to over years.
Over years it was hard to find a table and on Sundays very often they didn’t want even to make reservation, I was there twice a week during pandemic times, ordering take away. Due to that the service was always slow but it was worth to wait, now the restaurant is almost empty, service is fast but there is lack of taste.
I was always optimistic about changes but this just proofs changes are not always good - but who knows maybe on long run they will.
It is extremely said as this place, although fantastic for families (because of the small playground for kids) is slowly going out from my list. For sure I will give Mito another chance and I will hop in for another test but it will be the last one.
PS: If anyone knows where the old cook is now, please post a message as I have to admit I miss after his soup...
Read moreOur evening was destroyed by this place, we went there to have a sushi set and have drinks. Our order took them 40 minutes to prepare and nobody informed us about the waiting time for our order. As for the drinks, it was faster we get them in 15 minutes.. sushi weren’t good at all, like not for the price (145zl) it was like in a canteen. And only in 40 minutes the hostess lady told us, please wait for more 10 min and meanwhile you can get one extra drink, but the only thing we wanted is our set. After finishing the food we asked for the check and to be honest we were expecting that they will make some sort of discount or smth but no. This place is the big no, not tasty food, not good service. You should...
