OSTRO. Pizza Napoletana — Restaurant in Gdansk

I will start with saying the food is outstanding, however, the staff really let this place down. First time we visited the girl at the door was so grumpy and curt, we thought ok maybe she's got a bad day. We were made to wait about 20min despite the venue being empty inside.. fair enough. The staff generally looked stressed and rushed. The food was great so we decided to give the place another chance. Well, the place was now empty outside at the front, empty inside and the guy at the door just wanted to fob us off saying they are closing at 9.30pm, although it is advertised as closing at 10 and it was still 9.15. Doesn't take long to order two pizzas and eat them... You can totally see he just couldn't be bothered as he also almost just walked in trying to ignore the fact we are queueing. They advertise the pizza as getting cooked under 2min, well if you are quiet, surely you can make two pizzas. If you are closing for customers at 9.30pm , change your website and at least be polite. Such a shame.. Update. We went back, 3rd time lucky NOT. Great pizza as always but again we had terrible experience with the staff, our waitress appeared in a terrible mood, we tried to waive multiple people to ask for another round of drinks and after we eventually managed to order they never brought us the drinks until the pizza was ready which was when the girl realised the forgot them. Our waitress was def having a bad day, she was slamming chairs and plates on the table next to us, then her phone rang and she answered as she was there, walked away and then when she came back we could tell she just couldn't be bothered being there doing her job. If she was having a bad day, she shouldn't be there. Just generally feels like they all run about like headless chickens. So yes, lovely food but truly...

This place uses quality ingredients, from flour, DOP tomato to DOP cheeses; and proper technique to render the dough the typical fermented flavor I enjoy from Italian pizza itself.

But that was pretty much it. Good pizza, but not worth the hype if you’re travelers from outside Poland (especially you have good access to good Italian food in your home country, coz this is by no means exceptional or to-die-for kinda pizza by the standard of Italian pizza itself).

I ordered one of the fancier pizza, which is supposed to have a few premium ingredients extra compared to Margerita with extra 16+zl or so. But it turned out the extra ingredients were just sprinkled sparingly on top and weren’t contributing much to the overall taste performance.

So if anyone wanna try, I’d recommend just get a Margerita (33zl) rather than the fancier ones. That one should be darn worthy.

Speaking of the texture, the pizza has a soggy middle, which is not the most pleasant texture nor tidy way to eat pizza. But I agree with the disclaimer in the menu that they wanna stay true to the traditional Neapolitan pizza, so I’m not discrediting anything due to the texture.

Service is certainly not attentive for sure. Three groups of people waiting in 4degree Celsius out there for 5-10mins without getting seated while there are ample of seat inside. And they took order sequence not very seriously, people who ordered the same pizza as I did but after me yet got their food before me, and the waitress was like “so? You’ll be getting...

We were looking for pizza and found this place. The location is great. You can sit outside directly at the water and have picturesque view on all the old and new buildings on the other side of side river. It's not the historic side, but still quite nice especially at night. Unfortunately we had to sit inside at the first floor, so I'd recommend you book a table in advance, if you have the chance.

We had to wait a bit until our order was taken, but once done drinks and food arrived quickly. We ordered three different pizzas and a salad along with several drinks. The pizza comes with different flavoured olive oils which are a great pairing for the ever so light pizza crust. The pizza is baked in a wood-fired oven, which really is a game changer if executed correctly. And what should I say, the pizza was superb! Also the caprese salad I can recommend.

Staff and service was great overall! Every was very friendly and helpful. They even brought some games for the kids to kill some time while we were waiting for the food. Good job!

Why only 4 stars you asking? Well, sitting inside was a bummer for me, because in the first floor you also find the restroom of the place. I can't say it was smelly or anything, but because the area on the first floor is rather small and the restaurant is well visited you see some traffic. I personally found the constant coming and going, door opening and shutting and flushing rather annoying.
