I have to admit, when I visited Lublin, I didn't expect there to exist an Indian restaurant that not only has an excellent vegetarian-friendly menu, but is good enough to rival Indian restaurants found in London.
This place is new and opened in Spring 2018. There's a modern ambience when you walk into this restaurant tucked away from the main street in the Old Town. This modernity serves to draw in mostly tourists and you can expect to be greeted in English as well as Polish.
With a favourable exchange rate to USD/GBP/EUR, the food here is very tasty indeed for the price asked. The restaurant itself is run by a Punjabi Indian man along with his chefs hailing from the subcontinent. And they know their trade.
From the starters through to mains and dessert, the quality of food is high. You can choose from a range of dishes depending on your spice tolerance as many are listed on the menu with at least one to suit your tastes. Not sure? Ask the manager or his Polish colleague for assistance and you'll not be disappointed. I can personally suggest the gol guppa as a starter which are delicate savoury pastries you eat in one go. Their naans are excellent as well - perfectly cooked in a tandoor to a standard that would bring a tear of joy to a famished North Indian's eye. But generally you can pick from any of an array of dishes and you can't go wrong.
Overall, I cannot recommend this hidden little gem in Lublin Old Town enough. If you're a vegetarian tourist, this place is an absolute must on...
Read moreMiejsce fajnie urządzone, czyste, pracownicy mili. Kuchnia indyjska jest moja najbardziej ulubiona z kuchni krajów świata dlatego tez odwiedziłam Małe Indie. Zamówiłam pakorę, kormę, naan i wodę z imbirem.
A very nice place, clean, and nice staff. Indian cuisine is my most favorite ethnic cuisine, that's why I decided to visit the Little India today. I ordered pakora, korma, naan and ginger water. Let me put it this way, everything but the water was distasteful. Pakora is normally made from grated vegetables; however, here it was served as thick slices of vegetables covered in a thick coating. Korma lacked any spices that make Indian cuisine so aromatic and unique; it was bland and tasteless too. The naan was rubbery. When asked about the food by the owner, I said that I was disappointed because the food I just consumed had nothing to do with Indian food I knew for the last 20 years. The owner replied that he makes his dishes to suit the local tastes, which is a pity because what's the point of going for Indian cuisine that has nothing to do with it. The owner offered to make me something spicy, but I declined his offer as it was not about lack of spiciness but lack of a whole range of basic Indian aromas. I haven't lived in Poland for over 30 years and I was lucky enough to experience Indian cuisine in different countries, so I can't give more than one star for today's dishes. Lastly, I feel that the restaurant does a huge disservice to and is such a misrepresentation of...
Read moreThis restaurant introduced me to Indian cuisine in 2019, which has since become one of my favourites to reach for in need of filling, warming comfort food. I have since been to many Indian restaurants, both in Poland and internationally, but none has yet tasted better to me than Little India.
I strive to pick a different option each visit and so far no dish disappointed me here, both in flavour and presentation. Portions may seem small, but don't let that deceive you — paired with rice or naan, they'll satisfy your hunger before you can finish. I definitely recommend mango lassi, flavoured yoghurt drink perfectly balancing the sweetness of mango and yoghurt's freshness — perfect to pair with the meal or as a lightweight dessert.
Whenever I visit Lublin, I make sure to pay a visit at least once. Proud to have such a gem in...
