Read moreLuxury without generosity is not luxury, you know? That’s why you can notice both in one of the most well-known restaurants in Warsaw. Luxury can be seen in the beauty of the place itself – short distance to the National Theatre offers a wonderful pre- and post-theatre meal or drink. You can also enjoy soft chairs, well-balanced colours, Polish music of the pre-war, variety of liquers in demijohns, or nicely preserved old furniture (not to forget the grandfather’s clock or woollen carpet). The subtle touch to this amazing interior was the waiter whose service can be judged at the highest level possible. But, let’s be generous! The food reminds us of what Poland was between the wars (i.e. 1918-1939). We can smoothly move back one hundred years ago. That was the time when the patron of the restaurant lived and enjoyed his life in a reborn independent country. You can try delicious starters with a shot of homemade vodka. Dinners include excellent duck on plums or mouth-watering pumpkin pancakes. But! The most surprising for me was a dessert – a kissel which I considered to be an ordinary dish. This time it dumbfounded me! I could taste an amazing flavour of freshly picked Polish fruits. The juice was hidden in a smooth jelly liquid made from thickening kompot (fruit drink) with potato starch, however, I could bite whole fruits of cherries or blueberries just inbetween. Top of the top – there was also a scoop of halva parfait huddling on the right side of the bowl. Its sweetness excellently contrasted with sour fruity flavour. I finished my stay at Wieniawa with a decision...
Read moreThis was truly a wonderful experience, from the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked, out we felt transported to another era, of elegance and charm. We went twice for dinner. Once at the beginning of our holiday in early June with 12 of us and once at the end just earlier this week with 8 of us (from Japan, Australia, Germany & Algeria). Both nights were exceptional. The food was delicious, Polish & elegant. We ate the steak tartare, the herring, the duck, the dumplings, the crumbed chop, the beef, some sides, the cheese cake and the crepe sucette. All meals were delicious and refined. The drinks also. The staff were wonderful and knowledgeable and provided attentive service to us all - from my youngest (10year old) to our most mature & seasoned foodie. We loved the atmosphere and the attention to detail. From the elegant plates to the tartare & crepes made at the table. The music trio with the trumpet player & Polish jazz songs were an extra wonderful touch- unexpected for a Monday night, which made it all the more memorable for all of us. We will definitely be coming back next time we’re...
