Sphinx — Restaurant in Warsaw

If I could rate less than 1 star I would. This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever eaten in. The food was of such poor quality and bad taste that I couldn't even believe it. It took an hour to arrive after ordering and when it did come it was cold, tough and stale. Even black coffee took 30 minutes to arrive and was also cold. The meat had obviously been cooked and then frozen and then reheated. It was so badly damaged from the freezer that the actual muscle fibers had broken down and the"karkowka z grilla" had the texture of a boiled and then dried dish-washing sponge. It had the distinct and nauseating smell of meat that has been cooked in a microwave and when I bit into it I had to fight a gag reflex. The fries were very cold and very tough and and had the flavor of old, dirty oil. Even more shocking was that these shamefully disgusting dishes cost more than excellent food in most local restaurants. The service was as bad as the food. It took 20 minutes for us to be seated despite the fact that there were empty tables waiting for guests. The staff wandered around with vacant expressions and, as I mentioned, the food took an hour to arrive. Even worse, we couldn't leave! - we had to ask the same attendant THREE TIMES for the check and it took more than 20 minutes for them to bring it. It's like these poor, lost souls were doing everything they could to keep us in their creepy, culinary hell. Finally, we escaped but felt cheated and sad the whole afternoon. Niestety, nasza wizyta w tej restauracji była ogromnym rozczarowaniem. Wybrałyśmy się tam z koleżanką i naszymi dziećmi (łącznie 6 osób), i już na wejściu spotkałyśmy się z brakiem organizacji. Na ogródku było mnóstwo brudnych stołów, a kelnerka zamiast zachęcić do skorzystania z usług, ostrzegła, że czas oczekiwania na jedzenie wynosi godzinę, co zabrzmiało bardziej jak sugestia, żebyśmy sobie odpuściły. W środku zajęte były tylko dwa stoliki, ale większość pozostałych nadal była nieposprzątana. Wybrałyśmy stolik pełen okruchów i rachunek po poprzednich gościach – kelnerka zabrała koszyk, ale nawet nie wytarła stołu. Zamówiłyśmy dwie zupy, herbaty, dania dla dorosłych i dzieci oraz desery. Po około 15-20 minutach podano dwie herbaty i jedną zupę, a reszta dań przyszła dopiero po 40 minutach. Na drugą zupę musiałyśmy się upomnieć, a kelnerka stwierdziła, że chciała dać nam czas na zjedzenie (co było dziwne, bo tylko jedna zupa przyszła wcześniej). Kiedy w końcu zupa została podana, okazała się niejadalna z powodu nadmiernej ilości soli. Próbowałyśmy jej obie z koleżanką i zgodnie stwierdziłyśmy, że jest zbyt słona. Kelnerka nie skomentowała naszej uwagi, tylko szybko zabrała talerz, a później poinformowała nas, że kucharz stwierdził, iż zupa nie jest za słona – co uważam za bardzo nieprofesjonalne. Dopiero przy kolejnym podejściu poinformowano nas, że za zupę nie zapłacimy. Dania dla dzieci były podane poprawnie, choć kawałki kurczaka były przesuszone. Niestety, na desery dla dorosłych (ciasta) w ogóle się nie doczekałyśmy, mimo że dzieci dostały swoje lody. Kelnerka jakby o nas zapomniała, a my czekałyśmy bardzo długo, również na herbaty, które ostatecznie przyszły w momencie, gdy dzieci kończyły już lody. Kiedy w końcu upomniałyśmy się o rachunek, kelnerka przypomniała sobie, że zapomniała o naszych ciastach, ale dzieci były już gotowe do wyjścia w kurtkach, więc zrezygnowałyśmy. Pod względem smaku dania były przeciętne – mięso było ledwo ciepłe, a frytki koleżanki zwiędłe. Otaczały nas brudne stoły i zalegające naczynia, zarówno na stolikach, jak i za barem. Obsługa była chaotyczna i niestaranna – o wszystko trzeba było się upominać. Spędziłyśmy tam dużo czasu, głównie czekając. Nie polecam tej restauracji – fatalna organizacja, słaba obsługa i przeciętne jedzenie to nie jest coś, czego się oczekuje od wizyty w takim miejscu tym bardziej, gdzie rachunek jest na prawie 500 zł. Dodam jeszcze że za zupę i tak musiałyśmy zapłacić.

Samo wejście nie zachęcało, ale dzieci nalegały i uległyśmy i to...

Great place if you want to sit down, grab a bite, meet with friend, have some conversation, relax.

The Shawarma is tasty, well spiced, and good quality cuts of meat. The overall food quality is good. Noticeably a step up from the slew of budget Turkish Kebab palces in the city.

Good variety of drinks, so if your looking to hang out a bit it's a good option. Families with kids are catered to, with a kids menu.

The service was great, with helpful, polite English speaking staff. They were accommodating even later in the day around closing time.

Best of all, sometimes when other restaurants in Old Town are crazy crowded, Sphinx may not be bursting, as its on the other side...
