Masala Grill & Bar, Wrocław — A Tale of Tandoors, Tiffany Greens, and Teasing Tastebuds
Once upon a spicy evening in Wrocław, I found myself drawn, like a moth to a well-scented flame, to the glowing reviews of Masala Grill & Bar—an Indian culinary oasis nestled charmingly on Kuźnicza Street. Visions of swirling curries, fragrant smoke, and the holy grail of mango lassi danced in my head as I swaggered in, armed with unreasonable expectations and a palate sharper than Gordon Ramsay on a bad hair day.
First up: the mango lassi—a creamy glass of tropical optimism. It was good. Not “slap-your-grandmother” good, but certainly the kind that makes you sit back, sigh, and consider forgiving your enemies.
The paneer balls rolled onto the scene with respectable intent—crispy little cheese grenades, harmless and polite. But then came their sidekick, the chutney, which I can only describe as suffering from a midlife crisis. Vaguely sweet, emotionally confused, and lacking the punch you’d expect from a proper Indian condiment. No sass. No zing. Just... chutney, existing like a default setting. A nice tamarind and molasses twist could've turned this wallflower into prom queen. But alas.
Papadums? Crunchy, addictive, and the culinary equivalent of potato chips that studied abroad. No complaints there—these thin, golden discs were made for reckless nibbling. But again, those chutneys. If the papadums were the life of the party, the chutneys were the guy in the corner discussing cryptocurrency.
Now, onto the grill—the very heartbeat of any respectable Indian joint. And here, dear reader, the tale gets mildly tragic. The meat arrived looking confident but tasting like it had trust issues. The marinade hadn’t penetrated the soul of the protein—it flirted, maybe kissed it on the cheek, but never got to second base. There was a coleslaw-ish side dish, orange enough to double as traffic safety equipment, but let’s be honest—it wasn’t fooling anyone. What the grill needed was a full-bodied raita: yoghurt, cucumber, carrot, mint, coriander, lemon. A bowl of creamy redemption. Instead, we got Tiffany green mint yogurt—more fashion week than flavourful.
And then, a twist in the plot: dessert. Enter the gulab jamun with ice cream—a dish that strode in like Shah Rukh Khan in slow motion, background music swelling. Sweet, syrupy dumplings of joy cuddled up next to creamy ice cream in a union so heavenly I briefly considered proposing to the chef.
But the real MVP? The service. Charming, attentive, and friendly—like your favourite aunt who always knows when to top up your wine glass or sneak you extra dessert.
In conclusion, Masala Grill & Bar is a charming knight on a slightly squeaky culinary horse. There’s warmth, intent, and genuine friendliness, but the flavours? Oh, they need to put on their big curry pants and commit to the full Bollywood. There's greatness in there—waiting, lurking, stretching its limbs.
Until then, I’ll raise my mango lassi, nibble my papadum, and dream of a chutney...
Read moreWell, it's an Indian Restaurant and we (Indians) were made to feel completely ignored by your staff... It took 15 to 20 minutes for us to get your staffs attention just to have our orders taken. Amazing eh?
We asked for some water. Had to reminded the staff twice in the span of 45 minutes to have that delivered (No Food Served till now) but again not sure why our table was ignored? All around us, the food was being served - even to those who came after us. Do note - We have not received drinking water till now (So we keep staring, and kids (6 year olds) hungry and waiting). We finally had to go to the convenient store (Zabka) opposite to your restaurant to get the water, as the kids were thirsty ... How is that for customer treatment?? You will wonder why we dint walk out? The reason being we were left with no energy as we were on the city tour for the whole day.
Now comes the food after good 55 mins. Ratings of the dishes and comments as given:
Starters - Spinach Balls - 1.5 of 5 ( it was very cold and was not sure why it was even called spinach balls, as it hardly had any spinach in it) Starters - Veg Seekh Kabab - 2 out of 5 (it was average in taste. The sides served along with it was not at all going well with the Kabab) Main Course - Palak Paneer - 4 out 5 (to our surprise Palak Paneer was good, it had the right amount of spices and tasted like the good indian Palak Paneer) Main Course - Mixed Veg Gravy - 2 out of 5 (we had asked specifically on this before placing the order, whether it is sweet or spicy, we were told it is not sweet and would be medium spicy, but it was a sweet gravy with no taste) Garlic Naan - I have not seen many places getting the Indian breads wrong. But this place managed to that also. The Naan was dead and rubbery (uncooked).
Would not recommend this place to anyone. Or maybe any Indian out here (may be its one of those places)
In case you want to eat anything from here - take away Palak Paneer from...

The staff was incredibly friendly, offering prompt and attentive service, making us feel right at home.
We started with the appetizer that is some crispy samosas, flavorful pakoras & pani puri which were a perfect introduction to what was to come. Each bite was packed with vibrant spices and fresh ingredients, setting the stage for a fantastic meal.
For the main course, we chose the creamy butter chicken, aromatic biryani, and spicy paneer tikka and it exceeded all expectations. The flavors were perfectly balanced, rich without being overwhelming, and the portion size was generous. The naan was freshly baked and soft, and paired wonderfully with the dish.
What truly stands out about this restaurant is the authenticity and quality of the food. The chefs clearly know their craft, and every dish is prepared with care and attention to detail. The menu offers a wonderful range of choices for all tastes, and the spices are perfectly calibrated for a genuine Indian experience.
Overall, Masala Grill & Bar offers exceptional food, fantastic service, and an inviting atmosphere. It's a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine, and I can’t wait to return to try more of...
