Restaurante Monte Verde — Restaurant in Albufeira

We arrived on the first Christmas day, and was recommended by the hotel to go to their restaurant. I reserved a buffet for me and my son (9) for that night. I was not informed that the price would be double charged during the reservation. nothing mentioned! I should have asked though.

Service: We went to the restaurant that night and ordered some drinks, but nearly until the end of the meal came our drinks. My son had so much thirst that I went to remind them twice. I saw our ordered drinks on the desk there and would like to pick up myself bcz my son is very thirsty, but refused by them saying I was not allowed to take drinks myself. Finally we waited 40mins....

Food: seafoods are not fresh, seashells dried. desserts are not fresh except fruits.cakes have cheap supermarket taste. looks beautifully served but bad taste.

Bill: the price at the entrance shows around 25 euro for 1 person. but when we paid, they doubled the price, which came out 50 euro per person. we paid finally 110 euro for this disgusting meals, which is far more expensive than any buffet in the Nederlands and far lower quality.

We complained to the hotel and the hotel manager suggested us to take another meal for free there.but we refused.

2.5 stars It was a let down overall. We stayed at the hotel where this restaurant is located and though the restaurant would be as good as the hotel but unfortunately not. This review is based on the fact that this restaurant is placed in a hotel that is 4 star. I ordered the pepper steak, asked for it to be medium rare, got it well done with some pieces of it that might count as medium, still good though just not the way I wanted it. Vegetables with the steak was clearly frozen that had just been boiled, no seasoning at all. The sliced potato and the pepper sauce was good. You can't order a glass of wine, but must buy a whole bottle which is a let down, even though they have small bottles as well as large. I just want ONE glass of wine. When leaving we were almost yelled at in the door since one of the staff seeing us leave thought we had eaten the buffet and didn't pay for the drinks although we had ordered from the a la cart menu and had indeed paid for the food and drinks. We were staying in the apartments across the road from the hotel/restaurant and decided to dine there one night. Admittedly it was low season (late September) so much quieter than usual, and we had a great dining experience. It was very clean and well presented with white linen table cloths and napkins etc. and very smart, attentive and smiling waiting staff. Buffet has a good selection of tasty options and there was a chef cooking salmon and steak fresh on the hot plate. There was even a magician entertaining tables with a range of tricks!
