Porto di Mare Cascais Gourmet — Restaurant in Cascais

This restaurant is in a lovely location and it has a great patio. Those are about all the good comments I can make about this restaurant.

It was one of the worst dining experiences during our 3 weeks in Portugal. It was quiet when we arrived and we were directed to a nice table on the patio by a gentleman. A few moments later our server appeared and handed us a couple of menus. We ordered wine while we were looking at the menu. We generally do not have a heavy meal at lunch so we decided to share an order of tagliolini with shrimp. Our server was very brusque and we felt like we really imposing on her. She told us that the pasta was a small serving. We told her it was okay because we just wanted a light meal. The serving was very small. It was more of an appetizer size than an entrée and there were very few shrimp in the pasta. It was also lacking in flavour. This was so surprising because we’ve had such amazing pasta dishes at other restaurants in Portugal.

The worst aspect of this whole experience was when our lovely server presented the bill she had added an 18% gratuity. When we questioned this she said that she had every right to do this.

Stay away from here unless you want small servings of poor quality food, lackluster service and a 18% gratuity put on your bill. The prices are higher than other restaurants. I think almost anywhere in the vicinity would be better value than this restaurant especially when you tack on an...

We had dinner there last pm - mistakenly thinking that we couldn’t go wrong with Italian food. The place has an extensive menu of past and pizza. We ordered a pasta with ham and mushrooms in a cream sauce and the tortellini with spinach and ricotta. We also ordered bread and arugula salad. The dishes were served completely undressed with sauce - no cream sauce for the one pasta dish, and a bowl full of spinach tortellini stuffed with pasta. The bread and salad were never served. The only item that came out right was the Pinot Grigio wine. The meal was a complete rip off. My college aged sons make a better pasta meal with store bought items. It took them 10 minutes after the pasta was served to bring out the bread and Parmesan Cheese. The salad never arrived. My advice is stop for gelato to go. Forget about eating there until they care more about serving satisfactory meals. We could have had a meal at our hotel (Grande Real Villa Italia) for a similar price with a majestic ocean view, and excellent service. Our bad....

Finally decided to eat here after wandering around Cascais for a while. My boyfriend and I only wanted a small snack and a beer, so decided to stop here. A waiter came to ask what drinks we would have, so we ordered our beers and decided to ask for some chips when he returned. When he brought our beers out my boyfriend asked if they did fries on their own, to which the waiter said ‘yes but you can’t have just fries’. I was completely shocked by how rude the response was - we were still paying customers. He continued to say this was not enough food, so I told him we would not eat at all. As I said this he angrily took our plates away and stormed off. Awful service, and also completely bizarre as they ended up not selling us any food at all. To add to this, the outdoor seating area was barely half full, so it’s not like we were taking up precious space from other customers.
