To me this in the top 2 meals we've had in our 10 day trip around portugal and a must visit. It started as a ceramic shop and then became a cafe and now a restaurant. The ceramic shop still functions and they produce the most beautiful pieces! All the plates used in the restaurant are made in the ceramic shop. They also make new pieces to match new dishes. It's an open concept so you can view the 2 ladies working there who make and paint the ceramics. We had a tour after lunch and purchased many of their beautiful one of a kind pieces!
The food can stand alone as well. Everything we was ordered was delicious. Our favorites were the tomato salad, the duck (omg the duck rice was to die for) and the squid. Their hand cut fries were perfectly hot and crispy as well. They have a kids pre-fix for 12 euro which helps if you're traveling with children. This place is so unique and a must for any goodies and ceramic lovers. I will 100% return if I'm ever...
Read moreSome meals are just meals, and others become memories. Lunch at Refeitro da Baixa was a 10/10 experience. Housed in a pottery shop dating back to the 1800s, we had the rare privilege of sitting inside the old kiln — a stunning mix of history and ambience. The executive lunch menu was already excellent, but adding the wagyu tartare was the highlight: rich, layered, and unforgettable. Each course was beautifully prepared, paired with fresh bread, wine, and flawless service that struck the perfect balance of attentive and warm. We loved it so much we came back for dinner a few nights later — and it was just as incredible, if not more so. The A4 wagyu beef was stellar, the soup refined and soulful, and the wine pairings perfectly chosen. Every detail felt intentional, making Refeitro da Baixa not just a restaurant, but an experience. A true gem in Portugal’s...
Read moreThe night before I walked around that ceramic shop on the way back from a supermarket to get some fruit for our hotel stay and saw some people inside at night. I got curious - people eating inside a ceramic shop? - and I we made a reservation for tonight, thought my wife might like something different. This was one of our best food experiences in Portugal. Really great restaurant, refined options, great service, great wine options. We both loved it, and had two kids with us and the restaurant was kid friendly as well (special kids menus and accommodation staff). I would definitely recommend it over some of the street level restaurants higher up the old town.
If you arrive early the door is a little hard to find: if you walk around the restaurant you will find the well marked staff only entrance; your door is the unmarked wooden door just to the...
