A real hidden gem, best sea food restaurant in Faro with very nice service and very affordable prices. We had an amazing grilled sea bass and equally amazing tuna steak in tomato sauce plus bread and olives, soft drinks and one of us had a dessert and an espresso, also we were given free shots of almond liqueur at the end - the price was all together €37 (€45 with a well deserved tip) . The food is really fresh, picked from the fridge right in front of us. This is not a fancy touristy place, it's a real local food experience (we were the only tourists there). It's the second time we've visited Vasco Da Gama and we will be coming back as they literally set the bar for us.
And please don't read the bad reviews regarding the bread and olives that they charge for - it's a standard in Portugal - if some people don't get it I'd recommend all inclusive hotels and a personal guide to take you everywhere by the hand. Or read about the local...

I checked the menu outside the restaurant and picked the Daurade for 11.50 euros after asking the waiter if they had any "fish of the day".
After I paid blindly I mentioned the fish was not 22.50 but 11.50, and they discovered the price was per kilo (but the menu does not mention it, as seen on the attached picture.)
They had no fruit juice so I had said that if they had a RIPE mango, they could just cut it and that would be fine for me.. The mango was not RIPE, it was even real crunchy. And they additionally served a cut Kaki (I have never ordered), but charged total 6 euros for this.
They also charged for bread & butter which was NOT even served...
One part of the fish tasted very wrong so I requested some lemon (to avoid problems)
Finally, they charged a tip of 3.51€ (considering this all, it's a bit too much, and 13% is a lot more than the usual and not compulsory 10%...
Read moreA very unassuming restaurant from the outside, and almost cafe style to the interior, but don't let that put you off. We ate here twice in our recent stay in Faro, and the food we had was some of the best in the price bracket, and certainly significantly better than those nearby. I am not normally a fish lover, but had an amazing salmon fillet with salad and freshly prepared fries. Another visit I had the roast chicken, both of which were light seared on a charcoal grill I would think. Lovely staff too, which were very attentive without being pushy. Would most certainly visit again when next in Faro. Highly...
