During my visit to Faro, I wanted to pay Mr Frango, a visit, I watched vlogs of this restaurant on YouTube, and they were glowing, so I thought, I'd give it a try. Upon entering, the staff were welcoming. Mr Frango is off the beaten track, not near the tourist centres. It's a rustic restaurant, not fancy at all. Which I'd part of its charm, the local Faro people go there. Regarding the food, I ordered chicken 🐔 fries 🍟 and rice €9, served with a hot 🔥 sauce. The chicken was amazing, so tasty, I almost ordered a second meal, I did however ordered a desert 🍮, and a super bock beer 🍺. This entire meal, including the beer, only came to €13 ,such good value. Be weary though, when you sit down, they bring you olives 🫒 and bread 🍞, it's not free , so politely decline, or else you'll be charged, although I doubt it would add much onto the bill. If you visit Faro and like grilled chicken, definitely visit Mr Frango, you won't be disappointed. Evening dining 🍽 starts at 7pm don't get there before. They won't let you sit and wait. It will get very busy, so get there ASAP. ...
Read moreWe were rejected by the staff 30 minutes before closing time. He invited us to come the next day, and mentioned they open at 12:00. We were there the next day around 14:30 and were rejected once again by the rude staff for the second time.
Some restaurant staff etiquette reminder for you from restaurant owners themselves:
You can’t reject guests 30 mins before closure. If that’s your policy, move your closure time behind.
If you open for just 2.5 hours on a weekend, tell this to guests upfront as it’s unusual to open a restaurant for such a short time.
Ask your guests how much time they need, or if takeaway is an option. Rejecting is not productive and communication is humane.
Learn how to treat your guests nicely.
For what it’s worth, your behavior killed the vibe and we were not interested in your restaurant anymore. There’s a family restaurant option nearby with much more...
Read moreMaybe my expectations while reading reviews was to high, but I honestly don't think this place is worth such high grade.
Atmosphere is good, I like this kind of local non-fancy restaurants, but I usually expect very good food and portion size from such places. After going back and forth with the waiter because a lot of stuff from menu wasn't available (veal meat, vegetarian menu, chocolate moose), me and my friend decided to take half chicken each. Portions came combined, fries and rice were good, but chicken was really really small. I asked waiter is this single protion because it seemed ridiculously small. When I order half chicked I expect half of chicken, not half of a bit bigger pidgeon. But ok, it is what it is. The taste is so-so, nothing special to be honest, standard "industrial" chicken. Service was also so-so. Waiter was kind, but a bit confused and pretty...
