Vanguarda Madeirense — Restaurant in Faro

I recently visited Vanguarda Madeirense in Faro with my girlfriend and friends, drawn by high expectations and positive feedback. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several ways.

Despite the restaurant being only partially occupied (understandable for the time of year), the server seemed reluctant to provide the menu and instead pushed the daily dishes—a red flag from the start.

We began with bolo do caco as a starter. Having recently visited Funchal, where bolo do caco is a standout dish, I was disappointed. The bread lacked the buttery richness and freshness I had enjoyed in Madeira. It was mediocre at best.

For my main, I opted for the burger served on bolo do caco. Sadly, it was lackluster and uninspired, failing to elevate the experience. The one redeeming dish was the fried cornbread, which stood out in quality and flavor—easily surpassing anything similar I’ve had in Madeira.

Well we was looking forward to eating here as I was born in Madeira so miss the food. The food is okosh but it's not the same as Madeira but I can deal with that. The service was bad and when I mean bad , probably the worst I've seen, and I've seen bad service on the UK,but this is a whole new level. The waitress was clearly angry because we walked in as she was eating.( Although We had a table booked for that time) but the way she was treating others in the restaurant was a joke. I ordered one glass of wine ,they brought me something that was really not good and of course not fresh.
