Venda Velha — Restaurant in Funchal

Touristic spot with a severe anti-tourist attitude. We walked in, hoping to order two cocktails at the bar, and were met with absolute indifference. One bartender was too busy socializing with his mother and a small child who was literally walking on the bar with her shoes – he looked directly at us multiple times but couldn't even manage a simple 'hello.' The other bartender saw us too but also chose to completely ignore us. We tried sitting at a table next to the bar, thinking it might help, but still nothing. We eventually gave up and left. Seriously, skip this place if you want to avoid being ignored and...

we loved this bar so much! we came back twice when we were on our holiday.

a glass of (very strong) poncha was only €3 and they had lots of flavours - passion fruit, mint, orange, kiwi, strawberry from what we remember. the drinks are made in front of you and with real fruit.

locals and tourists come here and it gets so busy that everyone spills out onto the streets around. really fantastic atmosphere here and in a great location.

We have stayed in Madeira for 2 weeks. we have been in this bar 3 times. Staff are not bothered if they serve you. They spend their time bashing the drink poncho. We had red wine, that was ok. We then ordered a mohitovcocktail it tasted like a glass of water with mint leaves. We complained, not bothered showed us the bottle of a white spirit😕 looked like water, tasted like water. It is the usual ripoff...
