This place was recommended by a local fruit vendor, and it did not disappoint! It’s a great spot for dinner with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We started with the bolo do caco, which was fresh and flavorful. For our mains, we had the scabbardfish and the espetada—both were absolutely delicious. The espetada, in particular, was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. There’s a wide variety of options on the menu, and everything is reasonably priced. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great local meal in a relaxed setting.

The food was just okay, not that I'm extremely disappointed, but that I had a good meal I can't say. I would say it wasn't worth the money. We ordered the exact same set meal elsewhere, paid the same price and got bigger and tastier portions. The service is ok, nothing special to say. The atmosphere is like any other tourist place, like sitting at a train station - the chairs are a bit dirty, cramped. Some people might like it, I can't argue. In general, not the worst place, but I would not recommend it to my friends.

Sat down to be asked for our drinks order (big table with 1 menu) and felt pressured. When I tried to order was told no food only (someone else takes drinks). Took so long I didn't bother. Food seemed small and server tried to give me someone else's and tutted and rolled their eyes. Rude and grumpy staff. Very negative experience would give minus 5 if I could! Would not go again. Expensive 🫰

We first went to Estrela Do Mar 20 years ago in 1999 and we have been going back every time we visit Madeira which. I couldn't say exactly how many times but as we go there between 3 and 6 times each holiday (depending on whether we are here 1or 2 weeks) it must be 50+ times. That must speak for itself, it is a family run business now run by 2 brothers who took control after their father retired. The food they serve is superb especially the fish. Last night I had Parrot Fish a d my wife had Sea Bass both were fantastic. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and every year as we walk up the street for the first time we are greeted with such warmth it is unbelievable. To remember us is one thing but to remember which table we like, what we like to drink and our food preferences what more can a person ask? Finally I must say that as every thing you eat at Estrela Do Mar is bought on the day from local markets you can guarantee it will be fresh with a wide choice of Fish, Fish of The Day is always worth a try. We will continue to eat here as long as we can come to Madeira and as long as the boys are in business. Which I hope will be for many years...

Over priced food. Our pate was 'mass' made not homemade that came with thick melba toast from a packet- thought at the very least it would have come with toasted bread & butter. One of main courses was fish with seafood sauce - when it arrived you could clearly see from the 'perfect ' shape it was straight from the freezer and even worse it had batter on it which now covered in sauce was totally soggy, tasteless and inedible! The other main course had been described on the menu as steak, mushrooms and ham - but when this came it was swimming in sauce which wasn't mentioned. The chips were white ,under cooked and inedible. Both dishes came with over salted soggy vegetables. When we called the waitress over to explain about the soggy batter - she accused me of not reading the menu correctly! ' fish with seafood sauce' She called over the - who we believe was the owner - he argued and argued. Then presented the full bill!. Even though we I had only eaten one mouth full . I even asked him to show me his 'fresh fish' - this he refused. I wonder why?? We paid our...

Io sempre gentile e ringraziando lui nemmeno ci guardava in faccia continuando a parlare portoghese prende comanda e se ne va... Troppo caro rispetto a tutto quanto detto sopra...
