illicit Burgers — Restaurant in Lagos

If you seek for a quick review please head down to the bottom of this text. A friend of me likes all his meals really well done: his eggs, his tofu, his meat. He would have a nice time at illicit burgers. A burger has some main ingredients which are: bun, salad, sauce, cheese and beef. Everything else is just the cherry on top to make it one of a kind. (For me it is blue cheese and mushrooms or bacon and jalapenos). I had a good time at illicit burgers buf it was not what i was hoping for. Lets start with the bun: the menu at icillit says its potato buns - i couldn't find any potato, instead it was really soft and without any crunch at the inside. Also it was without sesame as shown on the pictures here. The salad: sadly it was totally missing tomato. The sauce: was nice! I really liked it, but one burger was only with ketchup and mustard - taste is different i guess but i would never choose ketchup for a burger. The cheese: was fine. The beef: my friend would say it was great but i really like my burger medium - thats impossible with two really thin 85g patties. The medium beef patty shows the freshness of the used beef and gives the burger awesome texture and falvours when it blends together with the sauce.

Negatives first…

Not much seating, but that’s fine as this isn’t a wine and dine joint. This is a spot where you go you eat your food and you leave, so a quick turn around. Unfortunately the chips were a little bit cold despite being well seasoned and the onion rings are not fresh they are the basic frozen ones that have tiny bits of onion mashed up in a ring. This place has the ability to use some real onions for the rings and would really have made them 10/10. If the chips were hot and onion rings were better this would’ve been an easy 5 Star.

Positives

A unique spot that offers bagels during the day and at night becomes a hip burger joint that serves super delicious, fresh and high quality burgers. Massively impressed with what we got compared to what we paid. €15 for a double chicken burger with chips and onion rings. The chicken they use is thigh, this will put some off but this is where the flavour is at. You also get two thighs on the burger which we were not expecting as the burger itself is only €10. We got the Hot Honey Burger 10/10 from me I’d visit again.

I ordered a Burger & fries, while waiting I noticed a special offer , “pay 5€ for fries, drink & icecream with any burger order” seems like a good deal so I ask the girl who served me can I take that offer and just pay the difference which would be extra €1.50 as the fries I paid for already were €3.50. To my surprise she said no I can’t, my order was already done she says, which makes no sense to me, I just want to give her the extra money to include the drink and ice cream but no can’t be done, dealing with a Robot at this stage , computer says No etc…. It wasn’t any extra effort for them, just bad customer service , look after your customers and they’ll look after you, anyway burger was yummy , the fries were awful , cold and soggy, not fresh, won’t go back there for 2 reasons, she wouldn’t take my money and let me include the offer( still dumbfounded as to why not) and the fries are overpriced and bad quality. If you want to reply to me explaining why I couldn’t pay the extra €1.50 after my order was gone through please do, you didnt have to do any extra cooking, the ice cream and drinks were right there in the fridge, strange ...
