Azimute in Lagos was one of two standout restaurants we visited the city, offering a fantastic selection of Portuguese food and wine, fab service, all in a really nice location with a really welcoming vibe. It's somewhere I can highly recommend!
Azimute itself has outdoor and indoor seating, and we were sat inside when we visited. It's a small and cosy space, and from where we were we could see the bar (made up of boxes from various Portuguese wineries) and also the small kitchen where everything was cooked. The vibe of the place was great - it was busy when we visited but no one was rushed, and our waiter on the night was fantastic too (and joked that everything in the restaurant was Portuguese except himself, as he was actually born in Birmingham!). We visited a tad early for dinner compared to your usual dinner time in Europe, and during the week - if you did want to visit at 'peak' time or the weekend, it might be worth booking.
As for the food - it was really well cooked and very tasty. The menu is relatively small (which is no bad thing, as it means they cook what they're good at), and full of Portuguese meals. When we visited, we tried the seafood xerem and grilled laghartinos. Both meals were fantastic, and the laghartinos were grilled and cooked to perfection - really lovely, tender meat from the ribs. My partner has the seafood xerém and had only positive things to say.
The wine selection was good too, and we decided to go on the sparkling wine on the night - our waiter let us know of a slightly more expensive bottle (a few Euro) they had recently got specially in which he recommended, and so we went for that instead and it was a great accompanying drink to the meal (unfortunately I've since forgotten exactly what it was!).
The meal was on the slightly more expensive side of some restaurants in Lagos, but given the quality, level of service, and just in general how good the food and experience was, this was...
Read moreWe care a lot about how food looks, how it’s reviewed, and—most importantly—how it tastes. We found this place while walking by, tucked away on a little side alley. No reservation, but we were seated in about 10 minutes.
Enter Stevie—our server, who was warm, funny, and genuinely helpful. He gave us great recommendations (actual good ones—not the “everything’s great” line) and checked in throughout the night to make sure we were taken care of.
The food? Really good. Not over-the-top, but absolutely worth the walk. In fact, it was immensely better than some of the spots we tried deeper in the central streets. Trust me—we hit a few of the touristy ones on the main strip and left disappointed. This place actually delivered.
Go tapas-style if you can—sharing a mix of plates made the meal more fun and gave us a chance to try more.
Top picks: • Pica Pau • Bulhão Pato Clams • Piri Piri Shrimp • Octopus
And whatever you do, finish with the rosemary crème brûlée. You’ll thank me later.

Read moreA Perfect Dining Experience From the moment we arrived, everything about this restaurant was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the vibe in the surrounding alleyway added an extra touch of charm and made the whole experience feel even more special.
The food was simply delicious — every dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and high-quality ingredients. You could taste the passion behind every bite.
What truly set this place apart, though, was the service. It was not only attentive and professional but also incredibly heartfelt. The staff made us feel genuinely welcome and taken care of throughout the evening. It was, without a doubt, the best service I have ever experienced in a restaurant.
Highly recommended — we will...
