We were seated outside right by the entrance to the restaurant, which was fine but as there is often a queue for this restaurant it meant we had an audience for much of the meal. Can’t be helped, I suppose - somebody has to sit there. Service was quite prompt and was polite and professional but nothing to write home about. The pizza was absolutely excellent (we got the diavola and the antica napoli), some of the best I’ve had and I expect we’ll probably return before we go home. However, the starters weren’t great. I had the tomato bruschetta which wasn’t bad, nice bread and nice tomatoes with a drizzle of oil and some fresh basil, but it could have done with some salt and maybe pepper (there were none on the table), and the tomatoes were cherry tomatoes cut into quarters, which meant they were prone to falling off, making it difficult to eat (especially in front of the aforementioned audience). The menu stated that the mozzarella dippers are served with marinara sauce, but the bought-in mozzarella sticks were served with what looked and tasted startlingly like ketchup.
We also had cocktails, a margarita and cosmopolitan. These were pretty good. We were charged €3.50 for tap water - I’m unsure if this is common practice in Portugal/Lagos, but it seems unreasonable to me.
Overall I highly recommend the pizza and cocktails, but I wouldn’t bother with the starters here. Our bill came to just under €62 (€8-9 for cocktails, €3.50 for water, ~€13 each for pizzas, unsure of cost...
Read moreThe food is amazing, homemade pasta 🍝 one of the best pizza (but, as i know its not Italian style of pizza its a Brooklyn, but its exactly what I like). A lot of tomato sauce, good quality of pepperoni, amazing atmosphere and friendly personal. We visit this place once and come back one more...but not 5 stars because you have to look at the check very carefully, because grissini on the table are not free - 0.75 € each. even if you haven't eaten them, they can be included in your bill. the same with water, in a normal restaurant, filtered water is always free, you want mineral water - you strain yourself, this is an unspoken rule. here be ready to pay for such water 2 or 3 euros, I do not remember, almost Evian, which is just ridiculous. it ruined the impression...( and so I would like to come back, but now not. instead of a nice compliment or bonus, they want to take from you as more as they can . Guys, you need to work on it! I hope that you will P.s: we ordered here pizza Diabolo, papperoni, pasta with shrimp tomato sauce, spinach and mushroom (don't remember the name) and Bolognese pasta, chocolate mousse was good as well. Wine from 3 € glass , don't take water 💦...
Read moreWe tried pizza in a few spots around Lagos and this was easily the best (and, since we had recently come from Milan, I can also say that it stacked up on the international pizza index, too). We went for lunch one day and came back for dinner another; both experiences were great.
The sauce set it apart, but whoever is making the dough and/or working the wood-fired oven really knows their work — the crust is the ideal mix of crisp under the toppings and fluffy and chewy at the edges. Plenty of options for vegetarians, and I can specifically recommend the 4 formaggi, Margherita, and (unexpected) beetroot pizzas, as well as the macaroni with burrata if you’re in a pasta mood.
We wrapped up our first meal with the panna cotta, which was a creamy, beautifully set pot of deliciousness. The wine list is sound and the service is attentive but not all over you — as with most Portuguese restaurants, they won’t hurry you out, so be prepared to raise a hand politely for attention, fellow Americans, and make a scribbling motion to ask for the check when you want it. A fantastic...
