Such a unique and sublime place that we stumbled across in Lisboa! Was just checking out the menu outside and got talking to the affable and really cool son of the owner and head chef (proper family business with his Angolan mother). The food is primarily Angolan-inspired and there’s such a delicate level of care and warmth that comes with these dishes, it’s fresh home-cooked food that is inimitable in terms of taste and quality. We wanted everything on the menu between the two of us! Have to recommend the traditional Angolan chicken stew dish (be prepared to use your hands!!) but also really recommend the coconut shrimp curry, possibly my favourite thing I tried out here in Lisboa. But really, you can’t go wrong with any dish here. Also, the apple crumble was delectable and rich, we came back another late night just to have that again! Whenever I’m about in Lisboa, I will always be back here: the reasonable prices, delicious food, sublime atmosphere and decor and the amazing staff really made this place one of the best parts of our...
Read moreWe were so lucky to stumble upon this absolute gem of a restaurant on our short trip to Lisbon. Awesome restaurant setting - jazz music, and decor really inviting. The menu was presented by wonderful Joao who was great in making recommendations from food to wine to desert. The entre was made up of beautiful cheese, cured meat, olives and an amazing curried tuna with coriander accompanied by bread and crackers. Off to a great start already. Flavours worked great together. Mains we had prawn curry and the prawns were one of the best cooked I've ever had, they melted in your mouth. We also had the beef in red wine sauce and thin chips. Divine! Topped off with a yummy apple crumble. Joao also gave us tastings of two red wines to chose from. Isabelle - I assume the chef, was top class. It was the best random walk in we've ever had from start to finish and the whole meal was less than 50e. Amazing value, for top quality meal, wonderful setting and passionate owners who value great...
Read moreBatata Doce , meaning sweet potatoes, is a a very sympathetic neighborhood restaurant, run by a very sweet couple, Joao and Isabel, two gentle souls. It has 6-8 tables, and could house not more than 18 people. Very cozy, chic, pleasant small restaurant where Joao serves with great care as Isabel cooks and prepares the orders. My favorite and her signature dish is Muamba with chicken ( muamba de frango) from Angola served with mandioca root. It is sort of a stew. I can go there every week just to eat muamba. But their muquequa de camarao ( shrimp) is also to die for. The place makes you feel at home. It is located in one of Lisbon’s most beautiful neighborhood Lapa’s cute street on the tram route. It is modestly priced. Would give even six stars if it were possible. Thank you...
