Stay away.
We were looking for a fado experience and an acquaintance of ours recommended the place, so we went there. We were welcomed by a seemingly warm host and sat on the back, next to the kitchen. The place was less than half full. I think everything started with the prices: they were way to high for what was offered. Still, we decided to go through it and get something to drink, a sausage and the veil stew to share. Then the waiter brings us some sides: a bit of cheese - of which one piece fell on the ground and he just ignored it, probably to make us pay later on - bread, olives and oil. So I say to myself, oh that's why the prices are high, they give you something extra for filler. Nope. The sky-high nose waiter says we pay what we eat from the sides - if we wanted we could just leave them be and not pay. Did you get that? You can choose not to eat and not pay the absurd price (15€ for the set), but we're putting it right under your nose, so not only you can't resist, but to be confused and spontaneously take a piece of bread, at which point you say oh well and essentially fall into the trap. What a disgusting, unprofessional, tourist trap money grabbing scheme. We were completely appalled and contemplated leaving for a moment. Then the food came. Nothing special, the veil was alright but expected much more for that price. The sausage was just alright. A sane man would ask, why didn't you leave? The answer was because we were waiting for the fado to start. And indeed, we waited, and waited, but no fado to be seen. At that point we decided to leave, almost 2 hours into the restaurant. Suddenly, we see the musicians take place. We were relieved, but not excited. So, the fado was alright, but they played exactly 16 minutes (yes, I timed them). It was very mediocre as far as experiencing goes. The accompaniment were two old guys, which were very talented and it was the one thing that kind of kept me focused. Other than that, it was just singing. Very little actual feeling, just a show for dumb tourists like us. And of course, we had eleven that ruined by that same waiter, who was now spraying the tables with disinfectant while the songs were still going. Who does that? Were the 3 minutes you saved worth ruining our experience? At the end of the last song, we jumped fr our seats and headed out as fast as we could. And the cherry on top, we were charged for the sides we didn't have. Thankfully, my girlfriend noticed and we returned to the restaurant to ask for the money. They were very apologetic - something about two different receipts, I don't know and I don't care - but the damage was already done. If I could give negative stars, trust me, I would. Waste of time, money and mental resources. If you're looking for an authentic fado experience, this is not the place. Stay as far...

Can't compare to other Fado restaurants, because this was my first, but definitly not my last experience.
Started the day with a visit at the Fado museum and ended at Bohemia LX.
The waiter was very nice...very busy but nevertheless took the time to make the costumer feel welcome.
Both singers ware amazing. The intimate feel you get watching and hearing someone sing without a microphone...it really got to me in some way. Couldn't understand a single word, loved every second!
Now the food, because it is a restaurant after all :). Every costumer gets offered a platter with small things (bread, olives and or cheese if i remember correctly). It is mentioned that when you accept, it is at a charge.
My girlfriend is vegan, so we asked if there are vegan options. The chef, a nice (little) older lady got it spot on. She made a delicous plate for her. As for me, a meat lover also had a great meal. The meat was tender, allmost melted on the tongue. My plate didn't need any dishwashing afterwards ;).
Had a chocolatemousse for desert; taste was great but a bit too 'soft'. Probably my own fault as i got caught up watching the performance and forgot the desert was on the table. It stood there for a good ten minutes...
I would absolutely recommend anyone if they're looking for great food for a really fair price (we paid less then 50 euro's and didn't hold back on drinks) and a real Fado experience.
Don't know when i ever will be back in Lissbon, but when i do... you'll find me at Bohemia LX!!!

Read moreWell, it all started when we arrived, and there was a line. We were the only ones with a reservation, so we went in front. The first guy didn't find the reservation, and while he called his colleague, he took all the other people waiting and seated them. His colleague didn't find the reservation either, and only then he checked the phone for the reservation, and he sat us at the last remaining table, in a dark corner.
Moments after we sat, the singing moment started, and no service is done during it. It lasted about fifteen minutes. The boy sounded very good; the lady should look for another job. Singing is not for her.
When service resumed, they first brought the food to the ones waiting already and, after, took orders from all that entered before us, of course. You remember, the ones without reservation.
We finally ordered, and they brought the starter and the wine moments before the next singing moment started. Service is slow and chaotic.
We had to leave for personal reasons, and we asked for the food to be ready for takeaway directly. They had only boxes for the food from the kitchen; the olives, bread, and cheese on the table had no boxes for them, and we had to let them there.
All and all, a bad experience. Avoid!
We eat the food twenty minutes later, at the hotel. Shrimp was delicious, Mushrooms with Chorizo, so and so, and Batata Potatoes were poor quality. From the chorizo, or whatever salami it was, I had heartburn and...
