The concept is local, seasonal but most importantly fresh and high quality ingredients. The menu is changing constantly and the dishes are very original. You order a couple of different dishes because they are very small. For starters we had bread with two “dips”; lard and olive oil. The bread was one of the best ones I had (and I am German) and the olive oil was so intense. It left me speechless straight away. The lard had something sweet with it and the combination was really tasty. The bread was warm and fluffy on the inside with a dark thick crust. What a way to kick things off. The other two starters were beef tartare and a braised beef tartlet. It came with a sort of horseradish sauce. Incredible. Then the mains started rolling in; prawn croissant on trout belly. It was sweet and crispy; a bit fishy but in a positive way. I was pleased but compared to the other dishes not the top though - the quality was simply too high. Then we had “smoked cod in tomato water and fresh oregano”. I was sceptical of the “tomato water” because it sounded a bit simple. I was proven wrong. It was so delicious; very aromatic. Then we had smoked eel - something we didn’t order at the beginning but since both the waiter and the table next to us mentioned it specifically we gave in; luckily. We couldn’t figure out at first what blew us away. Was it the sauce or the vegetables? No, it was the eel itself. It was smoky and rich, unbelievable and unforgettable. Then came the “butternut squash in smoked butter” (we loved all the smoked dishes). This dish went straight to the top of the list. The sweetness of the squash smashed into the butter was divine. With sugar and fat you never go wrong. It was also beautifully decorated with flower petals. Both our mouths and eyes were delighted. It was so delicious. For the last dish I was a bit concerned; we ordered acorn fed pork and the chefs recommendation was medium rare preparation. I am not a fan of pork and especially not raw. It was accompanied by baby spinach and a sweet puree. I took a bite … and had an out of body experience. I couldn’t believe what I was eating. Nothing reminded me of pork. It was tender and melted in my mouth. Together with the sweet puree I was left speechless. By far one of the best pieces of meet I had ever eaten in my life. I was full of joy and this was the best dish of the night; it had to be. This experience made me so happy and I have nothing bad to say. The service was impeccable and I could see and feel that everyone (kitchen and staff) stood 100% behind the concept and what they were selling. It was worth every euro and not overpriced at all. I am wishing this restaurant all the best but I know they will be doing well. With passion...
Read moreOne of most disappointing meal in Lisbon and we had such high hopes. Some in our party have been before and had excellent meals but ours was a total let down. Dishes were either trying too hard with too many elements or simply boring. The best dish was the mackerel with green apple and green olives, beef tartare was ok as well, but everything else was just meh and in the case of the hake, unbearably salty.
The worst thing was perhaps that service we had from our lead server. He was very dismissive of requests for accommodations, challenging whether it is a "true" allergy my cousin had with mushrooms (only to later serve her the mushroom dish). While he at first said the suggested temperature for the pork was medium rare, when a few of us wanted it more cooked he kept insisting that's not how it's recommended. He acquiesced at our insistence for medium for myself and a few people, which again were mixed up at service as my pork was clearly still very rare (bleeding) and my friend across from me had it pink (cooked). Instead of acknowledging the mix up, he insisted that mine is exactly how medium looks and that I just didn't know what it should be like. I had to really insist they cook it for longer. It came back slightly more cooked in less than 2 mins and the actual temp of the dish was at best, mildly hot to warm.
His attitude was honestly the worst I've encountered, the rest of the staff, especially the somm was so much better but could not make up for our lead guy's dismissivenss towards us.
To make matters worse, we believe the laundry service the restaurant used never dried their shirts properly. A number of them had that funky damp smell. especially our guy had the worst aroma of all, you could smell the funky shirt situation when he is a table away and the smell wafts over as he comes by and lingers. It seriously ruins the dishes, which could have used all the help to start with.
I can honestly say I've never been more disappointed at a well acclaimed restaurant. Maybe the post on IG about looking for a new head chef should have been our...
Read moreReally disappointing. We are foodies and do a lot of research on where to eat when we travel. We planned months in advance for our two nights in Lisbon and chose Prado as our top choice. Our friends let us know they would also be in Lisbon and we strongly encouraged them to join us at this restaurant. Based on what we read, we were expecting farm to table, local, super fresh food, especially fresh fish and vegetables--and also a high standard of service.
There were three sets of problems: The food. It was either very strange or there was something wrong with it. The fish was fishy, the vegetables were mushy and overcooked. For the meat eaters in our party, the meat came almost raw. I was not able to eat and left the restaurant hungry. The service. We asked for wine recommendations but weren't told the price of the wine recommended. We were pushed hard to order the tasting menu yet weren't told the price of the tasting menu. After my first dish came, which wasn't edible for me, the waiter asked if my dish was okay and I said I couldn't eat it. She took away the food without offering to bring me something else. When this happened again, the waiter did the same and gave me a dirty look. At no point in the evening did a manager or chef come and ask me if they could bring me something that I could eat. None of the people in our party had a good meal but no one complained because it was a special evening for us to all be together on vacation. The bill came with a tip already added--very rare in Europe for a party of 5 people. The follow-up. I wrote a respectful note to the restaurant right after I left, explaining what happened and asking for a refund for the meal I didn't eat. I was told that the problem was with my personal taste preferences and nothing was wrong with the food. There was no response to my comments about bad service. I was offered a nominal credit to be used if I go back to the restaurant, which of course is not worth anything to me since I don't live...
