Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau - Lx Factory — Restaurant in Lisbon

While exploring the city, i found LX Factory, a place with different shops and restaurants. Then i saw this place, which did sell the famous Balchau(cod fish) in croquettes. So of course i wanted to try. They did have one with cheese and one without. I choose cheese, but the employee did not tell me that is was goat cheese, which i dont like. The next problem is that they are all prepared and shows on the long disc which warms them, so many croquettes and not a crowded place, so not sure how long they have been on the disc. The last problem is the price. The place looks fancy and apperently it is a restaurant chain. But charging 5 euro for a craquette is too much, and 2,5 € euro for a bottle of watter thats cost 21 cent on the supermarket. And it was not even a fancy watter bottle in glass wgich some restaurants do when they charge overprice of watter in a restaurant. I would rather recommend going to Time Out Market where you can get similar craquettes with better taste for 1/3 of the prices at this place (unfortunetly i first tried this place before...

I left Lisbon knowing I was going to leave a negative review for this place. Lo and behold, I look them up on Google and see I’m in very good company! LOTS of people have left negative reviews. Good to know that I’m not alone in my thoughts.

My experience was disappointing was that I asked for a small beer (I was thinking equivalent of a half pint) but the glass I was brought was huge. I was confused and right away, said to the waiter “I asked for a small??” He said it was small.

I’m a petite woman. Even at home in the UK, I would never order a pint of beer. Even holding a glass that size doesn’t feel right. Also this is not what I wanted, not what I had in mind when I ordered. They were not at all friendly or understanding. They did not honour the misunderstanding, and I still had to pay for a drink I did not touch.

🇬🇧 English The signature dish of this restaurant is the fried codfish cake, which is also known as “Bacalhau” in Macau. This is a chain restaurant, and you’ll often find its branches near many tourist attractions. The one I visited is located inside LX Factory. Be sure to order a glass of local white wine, as the glass is printed with the date of your meal. You can even take the glass home as a souvenir. Don’t worry — when you pay the bill, the staff will carefully pack it for you at no extra charge. The portion of Bacalhau is quite generous. Each bite lets you taste the delicate texture of fish flakes along with a light savory flavor. Definitely worth trying!
