Landeau Chocolate — Restaurant in Lisbon

Oh my gosh!!! This chocolate cake is beyond delicious goodness!! I insisted on dragging my family to Landeau’s based on Dori Greenspan’s review in The NY Times. This cake does not disappoint! Landeau’s is located in the LX Factory which is adorable with so many fun restaurants, bars and a cool bookstore. I wish I would have known, we would have had dinner at one of the restaurants too. We could have each just had a slice of cake but I insisted on buying the whole cake and not the small one but the big one and we took it back to our hotel to each have a slice. We all agreed that it was the yummiest chocolate cake we had ever eaten! It was smooth, silky, rich and just pure decadence without being overtly sweet or too dense. We loved it so much I insisted on bringing it home—9 hours on an airplane and 4 hours in a car right into my refrigerator. We went to bed at 4am and woke up at 8am to a warm cup of coffee and another piece of cold scrumptious delicious chocolate cake! Well worth it!! A MUST if your in Lisbon!!!! I work in chocolate so I am very picky. When I hear a lot of hype about how good chocolate cake is, I’m skeptical. I love the chocolate cake at The Chocolate Room in Brooklyn. And I love the cake here! It is good. I wish they would sell mousse cups of the mousse on top of their cake for people that can’t eat gluten but ….they can’t do everything. What they do, they do well. I believe they use Valrhona chocolate but they told me they are not allowed to tell me. By the taste, I’m convinced the couverture they use is Valrhona. If you are going to use couverture, Valrhona is a good one. The design is gorgeous. The music Jao Gilberto or however you spell it . Lovely experience. We liked the hot chocolate too. There info on cacao types in the glass is out of date. There are not only 3 types of cacao. A discovery by a scientist Motomayor has found there are at least 11 now but most people could care less. Favourite chocolate cake with fullfilling stunning real cacao flavour. Forget about chocolate colour creams that taste nothing. Forget about chocolate sponge cakes that smell and lack flavour. Welcome to the real cacao and melting dark chocolate flavour world! It might not be the prettiest (also depends what you consider pretty- bling blings and sugarry coatings not a deal here. ), but it sure is the tastiest treat. I would say Landeau cake visual matches wabi-sabi philosophy- it is simple and naturally beautiful as it is. Whenever I think in real chocolate cake - Landeau is the one I wish. Go for one slice, for start, only. Order with coffe and water. Slice has absolutely fair price. Whole cake itself as well.
