After a long day exploring Arco da Rua Augusta, we wanted to try something truly local—and Clube do Bacalhau was the perfect choice! As international travelers from India on our honeymoon, we were looking for an authentic Portuguese dining experience, and this place delivered beyond expectations.

We chose to sit outdoors in a cozy alley, which made the experience feel even more traditional. The atmosphere was lively, and we got lucky with a table before it got fully packed.

A must-try! ✔ Green Wine (Vinho Verde) – First time trying it, and it was surprisingly crisp, light, and refreshing—perfect with the bacalhau! ✔ A Special Surprise – Free Ginjinha Shots! 🍷 – Our server welcomed us with complimentary shots of Portugal’s famous cherry liqueur (Ginjinha) as a gesture of hospitality. A fantastic start to the meal!

✔ Incredible Staff! – Our server (wish we remembered his name!) was from Bangladesh but made us feel completely at home. ✔ Genuine Warmth & Hospitality – He took the time to explain the menu, offer recommendations, and even shared a bit about Portuguese culture. ✔ Free Welcome Drink? Yes, Please! – The complimentary Ginjinha shots were such a warm and unexpected touch—a real “Welcome to Portugal” moment!

I never felt more insulted as a client. The restaurant shows a menu at the entrance to attract you, and then the prices of the food are different (+3€ each) because, and I quote: "those were dishes of the day, and now it's evening". I'll let you imagine the smuggling of the personnel at this point, and when I simply showed the picture of the menu they still have outside (see attached picture: at 22h30, the "Daytime" menu with the "Daytime" prices is still there, what a crazy coincidence mh?), they just lowered their heads, going away and saying nothing. Useless to add at this point but I actually arrived to the restaurant asking "is this your menu?" to be welcomed with a "yes, please come inside" and I didn't hear any "BUT these prices are not the ones for the evening".

You know, admitting your scam would have at least kept your dignity somehow.

Let's also add that since the beginning, each interaction with the personnel has been rude and stressful. They were always pissed for each question we asked, and after giving their answer, they started to impatiently ask you if we wanted the dish or not.

let's close this pitiful review with the fact that they charged us 2 euros more for the doggy bags we took. Amazing, thanks for the funny experience.

At least, the food was good. Congrats to the chef 😇 but expensive of course as a nice scam...

If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Lisbon, look no further than Club do Bacalhau. From the moment we arrived, the warmth of the staff and the welcoming ambiance set the tone for a truly special evening.

The menu is a celebration of Portuguese culinary heritage, and of course, bacalhau (salt cod) is the star of the show — prepared with a level of care, tradition, and creativity that simply blew us away. Each dish was cooked to perfection, rich in flavour, and beautifully presented. Whether it was the classic bacalhau à Brás or their more inventive takes, every bite was a testament to quality ingredients and passion in the kitchen.

The service was just as exceptional — attentive without being intrusive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. They made us feel not just like customers, but like honoured guests. Their wine recommendations perfectly complemented the meal, and every course was timed impeccably.

It’s rare to find a restaurant that balances heart, history, and hospitality so effortlessly — but Club do Bacalhau does exactly that. A true Lisbon treasure that I would return to in a heartbeat.
