What an amazing dinner! First, Iâd like to say that most of the bad reviews this place has here are due to the fact that people are not familiar with Portuguese dining. Bread, cheese, olives, etc. are not free. The waiter will offer it to you and if you accept it, you pay. If you politely decline, you will not be charged. This is the same for all Portuguese restaurants, in general. This is not the fault of the restaurant and should not tarnish their reviews.
Secondly, what a great menu! My fiancé and had the bread, olive oil, butter, and olives starter, which was great! Ours came with two different types of bread. We also had the pork with clams and potatoes as well as the chicken stuffed with chorizo which came with spinach and potatoes. We also ordered a side of rice and a pitcher of Sangria (red). For dessert, we had the rice pudding. As someone of Portuguese descent, the food is traditional with a bit of a modern twist! Well-seasoned, cooked well, and good sized portions.
Service was quick and they have a friendly staff. I would absolutely recommend and am considering going again before we leave...
Read moreIf you are staying in the Alfama area, then you should consider dining in at this authentic Portuguese restaurant. My air b&b host recommended me this restaurant and I am very grateful to him.
The servers spoke adequate English so that I did not have to try out my poor Portuguese speaking drills. I am not 100% sure, but I think the menu was also available in English. What are they good at? Seafood and anything that's seafood. Bacalo, camaron and pulvo were all excellent. You can try their risotto and charcuterie meats if you are not a big seafood fan.
The seafood stew was memorable. It was during mid-Feb and it was quite cold (not freezing due to plenty of sun). And consuming that seafood stew was heavenly under that circumstance. I ended up dining in at this restaurant twice during my 6 days stay in the Alfama. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine in at this place (then it would fit the criteria of Michelin 1 star), but I will definitely revisit if I am in the...
Read moreThis has been the best food experience we had thus far in Portugal. Really, really good Cod, prepared perfectly with a cornbread herb crust served over sautĂ©ed onion and sweet potato. It was delicious,âŠwife had the Portuguese style seafood risotto and it was perfect as well. Food came out nice and hot! We had a fabulous Portugese wine which was a perfect pairing with the fish dishes. The staff were so nice , took the extra time and explained how they prepared everything and we really appreciated it. We are going back for the octopus in a couple of days. Just note, spend the money on the better wines in Portugal, they are soooo worth it! Portugal has some of the worldâs best wines if you seek them out!! Great clean Portugese restaurant, people and food! So underrated on the reviews. Check it out!! Across from the...
