O Pepe — Restaurant in Lisbon

Disappointing and very underwhelming. Hotel recommended this restaurant and was looking forward to their Portuguese food. I came at the tail end of lunch service. They sat me at the service table where they polish glassware, hardly enough room to eat next to drying wine glasses. I was given a menu, however after trying to order bacalhau à pepe and was told the restaurant was too busy and the only thing I can order was octopus and rice. Reluctant to get that. I just order since I was famished. Server hardly wanted to serve me and was only attentive to locals. I was prepared to order 60 euros worth of food and crush it. Owner practically didn’t want to acknowledge me and serve me coffee after the meal. Server asked if I had enough to eat- I wasn’t even allowed to order more (kitchen apparently was done for orders) and he invited me to come to dinner. No thanks! Probably a locals only place. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel compelled to spare others from stepping into a mess. The service at this restaurant was shockingly bad—borderline unbearable. The staff acted like our presence was an inconvenience, as if we were lucky to be there rather than the other way around. The menu was practically empty, and the server was openly rude throughout the experience.

Absolutely horrific service from the waiter! We were so prepared for a delicious meal as it was recommended by our hotel. Unfortunately, barely any attention was given to us as it was busy, which we sort of understood but then was very short and rude. When we declined the tapas put on the table (after asking if it was complimentary, and told “it is a restaurant, so you must eat it”).
