AT LAST!!! There is a new and FIRST ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT in Lisbon and Portugal!!!!
Last night we gathered for a dinner at Sajna in Anjos, and we found out the owner Natalie (the sweetest chef ever) was testing her brand new Ethiopian dishes menu (only the vegetarian/vegan options last night, non veg I guess from next month), so we had it a go! it was amazing and absolutely delicious! We had an amazing mixed veg dish named Beyeaynet and the lovely Shiro Tegamino, my absolute favorite since my years in East Africa. And the Injera bread was soooooo tasty and soft, made with Teff flour and a bit of wheat and barley (not completely GF but I hope she will find an alternative). Eating with your hands is not only recommended, but the best option to enjoy those specialties and the injera flat bread!!!
Beside the excellent Lebanese food she already prepared, now finally she is taking the plunge and offering us delicacies from her native country! I still can't believe it and I am grateful to Natalie for giving us this new and incredibly good food alternative in the city. Lisbon finally has its first Ethiopian spot!!!!
There is definitely margin of improvement in the decor of the place, and some Ethiopian jazz music as background would be so cool, but for now its a great spot to eat and share such and original food and menu!
Mach'allah...
Read moreI wish I could give this place zero stars, because it was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. My partner and I went there on a Sunday evening, after seeing some positive reviews on Google. What a mistake! The place was so damp we could hardly breathe. They put us on the last table, next to the kitchen, and ignored us for 15 minutes. When they finally took our order, we realized that this was a family business run by very unprofessional people. The staff were in the back, and only one person had to handle everything. He was so slow and careless that he forgot one of our drinks, and we had to remind him after 10 minutes. He also handled cash and food with the same dirty hands, touching bread and other items without gloves or sanitizers. We were disgusted by his lack of hygiene and safety. We waited for 45 minutes, and nothing came to our table. Not even bread or water. Then, a woman came and asked us to move to another table, because they had “reservations”. We were angry by their lack of professionalism. We left the restaurant immediately, telling them that this was not even a one-star restaurant. This was an amateur place run by very unprofessional people. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place ! All he had to say was sorry. And sorry...
Read moreWe were excited to try this place as it was close to home and had amazing reviews. We were a party of 6, 2 ordered Ethiopian food, and 4 ordered Lebanese food. We arrived at 7. The place filled up quickly. It took quite a while for us to place our order. The server told us he was a friend of the owner who was helping out. Both wines we ordered were not available. An appetizer we wanted was also not available. When our food did arrive, it was mediocre. My Tawook chicken was dry, and the Falafels were dry as well. The lamb was good. Our Halloumi looked good until you turned it over. Golden on one side, burnt on the other. We sent it back. When the new Halloumi was delivered, it came back much in the same state. We were told that's how they cook it. The Ethiopian was not only unappealing to look at it was tasteless and very...
