A Hidden Gem in Lisbon: Santa Rita Restaurant
Our visit to Santa Rita Restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in the heart of Lisbon, this charming restaurant exudes tradition, warmth, and a true passion for Portuguese cuisine. The moment we learned about the inspiring story behind the restaurant, opened by a remarkable woman who poured her heart and soul into it, we were deeply moved. It’s a place where every detail, from the décor to the food, reflects her dedication and love for the culinary arts.
The food was simply outstanding. Every dish we tried was a perfect representation of Portugal’s rich gastronomic culture. From the bold, authentic flavors to the exquisite presentation, it’s clear that a lot of thought and care goes into each plate. You can taste the passion in every bite, making it a meal to remember.
What truly stood out to us was the heartwarming atmosphere and the sense of community this place fosters. We left not just satisfied with an incredible meal but also truly inspired by the story and the hard work behind it. Santa Rita is more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience that will stay with us for a long time.

Read moreA Hidden Gem Near the Castle! Santa Rita is a true hidden gem in Lisbon. My family and I, with our two children, were looking for a place to eat after visiting the castle and we stumbled upon this restaurant. From the outside, it's unassuming, with only a sign hinting at what's inside. But once you step through the doors, you're greeted with a warm, homey atmosphere and incredible food. The menu is fantastic, offering a great variety of dishes, especially for seafood lovers. We found something for everyone, which can be tough with kids! The grilled sardines and shrimp were outstanding, as were the pasta dishes. I highly recommend trying the white wine sangria—it was my first time, and it was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and made sure we felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout our meal. It's the kind of place that makes you feel right at home. If you're walking through the Alfama district on your way back from the castle, you should definitely make a stop at Santa Rita. You won't be...
Read moreIn downtown Lisbon, it seems like every restaurant has two guys out front with a menu trying to flag you down and get you to eat there. We really wanted to avoid those places, so we asked our hotel front desk person to recommend a restaurant popular with the locals, and she sent us to Santa Rita. We were so glad that she did, and ended up eating dinner there twice during our week. The restaurant is on a quiet side street, about a 5-10 min walk from the hotels and hubub of Baixa.
The food is very good and is reasonably priced. I had two cod dishes, Spiritual Cod and Cod Bras and both were excellent (both were new to me). My wife had a chicken and a beef dish, where each comes with rice and french fries (interesting combination) with an egg on top. The staff also was so friendly. On our first visit, one of the waiters ended up chatting with us and recommending other cities to visit, what food to order in Porto, and so on.
All in all, it's just a solid unpretentious place where you will get a good meal...
