i had an amazing experience at SKIZZO and felt it deserved a proper review.
the service was truly impeccable, every single member of the staff was kind and genuinely interested in making our experience special. they were always ready to offer suggestions and explain the concept behind the dishes.
we started with the shrimp starter, which was incredibly fresh, served with a delicious chilli and basil oil sauce. we ordered a warm focaccia to go with it, and it was the perfect match.
then came the scallops, easily a 10 out of 10. the scallops were cooked to perfection, and the sauce was simply out of this world. we even had to order more focaccia just to soak up every bit of it. for us, it was definitely one of the best dishes of the night.
we also tried the curry chicken, which was delicious. the curry had a slight kick to it, for someone not used to spice, it might feel a bit strong, but for us, it was just right.
another surprising hit was the kale with white garlic and pistachio sauce. absolutely balanced, flavorful, and something we would order again without hesitation.
for the main course, we ordered the squid with beans. honestly, it was the only dish we didn’t enjoy. the beans were very well seasoned and tasty, but the texture of the squid felt off. both elements ended up having a very similar texture, which made the dish a bit monotonous. we couldn’t finish it, and none of us really clicked with the combination.
on the side, we ordered the potatoes with cheese, another highlight. perfectly cooked and full of flavor, definitely worth ordering again.
for dessert, we had the brioche with dulce de leche, ice cream, and parmesan. it was a good dessert overall, but there was way too much parmesan on top. the large shavings overpowered the sweetness, making it a bit heavy. we ended up leaving most of the parmesan on the plate. if the balance between the dulce de leche and the parmesan was better, it would have been much more enjoyable.
despite the small misses, SKIZZO is truly outstanding and extremely promising. it’s easily one of the best restaurants we’ve visited in lisbon, and we can’t wait to go back and explore more...
Read moreSkizzo was our first stop during my birthday trip to Lisbon, and we had high hopes for this new restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic and most of the service team was excellent - Anna in particular was fantastic and so helpful throughout our visit.
However, we encountered some significant issues with our main server. Our waiter took our order but then admitted to forgetting part of it. We politely reminded him, which seemed to resolve the issue initially. However, by the end of our meal, one of our dishes was still missing. To make matters worse, my friends had arranged a surprise birthday dessert, but our server spoiled the surprise by asking if he could bring it out.
The service felt uncoordinated - we had three different staff members refilling our water within two minutes, yet our actual food orders weren't being tracked properly. When we brought these issues to management's attention and asked for some accommodation, they declined but did remove the optional gratuity charge.
On the positive side, the restaurant has a great vibe and the starters were definitely the highlight of the meal. However, the main courses (flat iron and tenderloin) were overly salty.
Despite the wonderful atmosphere and Anna's excellent service, the issues with our main server left a disappointing impression on what should have been a special birthday...
Read moreThe place is warm and charming, with a lovely atmosphere. The welcome was very friendly, and we were excited for the evening.
However, things started to go downhill.
I ordered a white wine, but the one I was brought was too acidic so I asked to taste another one, and the reaction made me feel like I was being difficult, which is very unpleasant…
Then came the food. The fish was poorly cleaned, and parts of it had a terrible sewage-like taste due to the bile. It was almost inedible (they didn’t charge the fish but I had the bad taste all night)
The apple tartlet that followed was also disappointing—the pastry was completely undercooked.
Given the hype around this restaurant, it was a real letdown.
One warning : the chairs. They have three legs, making them incredibly unstable. And just to clarify—this happened before we had any alcohol! We nearly fell off our chairs twice each !!
On a positive note, the prawns were absolutely incredible, and the wine sauce with the scallops was well-crafted.
Overall, a very mixed experience, and certainly not worth the high...
