Having moved to Lisbon about 25 years ago, I witnessed the city's slow but inexorable gentrification process. Although back then some ambitious institutions were trying to promote Santos as Lisbon's "Design District", many factors (most notably the area's infamous teen-nightlife scene, now almost defunct) postponed its absorption into the gentrification wave that was about to sweep other areas of the city.
