Extremely not responsible stuff! We tried to have there dinner two days in a row and didn't 🤦‍♀️ On the first day a waitress said that we have to show our covid certificates to get the table (apparently, we needed certificates only if we want to eat inside the restaurant, while there are a lot of tables outside, but explaining everything clearly was probably too hard🤷‍♀️), so we had to go home and get them - no one even looked at them by the way, not even talking about scanning qr-code. The dish we wanted to order they didn't have already - well, happens, even though we tried to call first and ask about that, but no one picked up. Next day we decided to book that exactly same dish before (unfortunately, only this ridiculous place was supposed to have it in menu and is really close to home) and made a reservation for dinner. Half an hour before our reservation we get a call with information that they don't have this dish again!! This time someone just didn't know that they don't have it (already after few hours of work they run out of exactly same dish or ingredients or whatever🤷‍♀️ but anyway) and instead of checking first and after making our reservation, or at least confirming this information and tell us earlier they decided to call right before the dinner. Just ruined plans. Very rude and irresponsible behavior, we would write a complaint, but didn't want to waste even more time for this restaurant. The food we tried once last year was fine (fortunately, it was morning and they still had some dishes to serve👌) so if you get really lucky maybe they will care a bit more about clients and you will also try...

The bread, butter, and cheese were delicious, but that’s where the enjoyable experience ended and the only reason I gave even one star. A warning to anyone eating here: the bread, butter, cheese, and olives are not free, and the staff were rude, unapproachable, and took advantage that we were a group of young students.

When my group sat down, the server dropped all of this food without us asking and we assumed it was free. We eventually figured out that we would be charged for anything we ate, so we left the rest unopened. Soon, half of my group left due to the complete lack of vegetarian options and afterwards, the staff never came back over to the table. They made a point to avoid our table even as we tried to order our dinner. We waited for 30 minutes, tried to get their attention, but no one ever came. Eventually we were able to get someone and just asked for the check.

The bill was €40 and we only ordered a few drinks. They charged us for all the food they set on the table, even the food we didn’t touch or uncover. We asked them to take the food we didn’t eat off the bill and they were very rude and not understanding. When asked why half our group left and we told them because of the lack of vegetarian options, they said that “they have beans.”

Overall, I’m very disappointed wit the way they handled the situation, and the complete lack of transparency from the restaurant by trying to trick us into paying for things we did not order, and for allowing their customers to sit there unattended for...

While Tacho do Pescador is firmly in a tourist area, the patrons run the gamut of tourists and locals alike as the diners around us spoke Portuguese. This restaurant is quite family-friendly. If you see a line up out front, they will take down your name and you can sit across from the entrance and wait your name to be called. The maitre d will call your name so don't hesitate to line up. The staff knows basic English, but don't expect in-depth conversations. Just as well, because this place caters to locals and tourists alike, and that's what I wanted. We ordered the curried prawns and the grilled bacalao. The curry is pleasant and very interesting, it is more on a sweeter side and maybe even a little fruity? It is not spicy at all and complimented the prawns really well. It came with rice on the side which mopped up the sauce really well. The bacalao was a thick fillet of salted cod and had great grill flavor. A glass of wine and two entrees 45 euros. That's a great value considering this is in the middle of a tourist area. You will have a lot of choice up and down the strip of restaurants here, and we decided on this place because it had a lineup. It was a really good choice. A place with a lineup can rarely go wrong.

My wife and I dropped by for a dinner a Sunday evening The place had quite some guests, but was not overly crowded. The tables are placed very close. The menu contains a nice selection of food and beverages. And that is very nice. The service is ok, but the serving personnel are not very engaged in serving. It would be nice if they actually showed that it is ok to be a customer in the restaurant and not a nuisance. Regarding the food, it was quite disappointing that the sardine pate was served in a small container instead of serving something homemade in the restaurant. And the butter was also in a small plastic container instead of being fresh. The bean stew (With and without fish) was ok, but lacked flavour - to include salt… as if the courses/dishes had been made this way for many years and people in the restaurant had forgotten to taste the food before being served - “lack of love” in the food. So overall a bit of a disappointment to dine here. And with all the choices around I would go somewhere else next time.
