A Hidden Gem in Fátima That Outshines the Big Names.
After over a week of eating our way through Portugal—including several Michelin and Eater-recommended spots—Apollo Privé in Fátima ended up being one of the best meals of the trip.
From the start, service was on point. Our server, Angelo, struck the perfect balance between warmth and professionalism. He helped us choose a fantastic Portuguese white wine (we’re usually French wine loyalists, so this was no easy feat), and he nailed it—elegant, well-structured, and beautifully paired with the seafood.
What really stood out was how non-pushy and accommodating the experience felt. Unlike other seafood places that try to upsell or overfeed, Angelo gave honest suggestions and helped us order just the right amount.
We started with the crab and red clam rice, which was deeply flavorful and cooked just right. But the absolute star? The large red shrimp—possibly carabineiro (Angelo mentioned they were from Morocco). These were hands down the best shrimp I’ve ever tasted: rich, sweet, perfectly grilled, and unforgettable.
Atmosphere-wise, it’s elegant but not stiff—perfect for a special evening without the pretension.
Bottom line: If you’re in or near Fátima, this place is absolutely worth going out of your way for. Great food, thoughtful service, and a refreshing break from the overhyped tourist...
Read moreWhat a nice surprise! Recommended by a friend. Great service, delicious food, cool soundtrack, quaint decor and silent Fashion TV running on a big screen almost made this like a hip joint to hang out. But the real winner was the food and service. Clams were the best I had. Together with lightly toasted buttered bread, it was a dream. Every drop of the broth was not wasted. Next, was the seafood with rice. What can I say… The clams already set the benchmark, and this was equally good. Umami mix of seafood yet not overly rich (nor jerlak). Unfortunately, we had no more room left for dessert although I toyed with having their crepe. Very happy and satisfied. But felt a tad guilty, considering we were in Fatima. Eat first, ask for forgiveness after.
EDIT: we went back the next night for the clams again. Yes, it was that good. But this time, we also decided to try their carabinero prawn (listed as big red prawn on their menu at €125/kg). We had it specially cooked with linguine. The chef fried the prawn first to extract the oil and then used it with garlic and some tomatoes as the pasta base. The flavour of the prawn was outstanding! Totally worth it (the 4 prawns we had weighed...
Read moreWhat a memorable evening, me and my sister, can't remember when we had such relaxing and beautiful night. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was calming and all the little extra touches was fantastic but what made it the best for us on the night was the warm humble service we received, genuine and well trained waiters welcomed us as part of there own, our main server was George, some of the best I've ever seen. Made our night complete and memories will be with us always, highly recommend this restaurant and a beautiful touch as you can walk into a walk-in drinks room and dedicate your evening with some memorable drinks of your choosing, we can not say thank you enough George and restaurant Privé. Saludos Paul...
