Imagine if you will, a verdant island surrounded by clear azure waters. Walk through the isle’s lush and flower-filled valleys, walk the streets of its cities, walk until your soul is full but your belly needs filling.
What if, when you stopped walking, you looked up and right in front of you was an Indian restaurant with rich azure walls that mirror the clear blue waters of the Atlantic crashing along the shore. Golden light spills through the windows into the street, so you decide to take a chance, take a few more steps, and walk through the door into Namaste India, Indian restaurant in Ponta Delgada.
I was welcomed to Namaste by smiling and genuinely friendly staff. The décor is warm and beautiful, but what about the food? The food is delicious. My meal was savory, sweet, and spicy. I had a crisp Vegetable Samosa paired with sweet and savory dipping sauces. Aromatic Karahi Prawns, with bell pepper, onion and tomato in a sweet and savory sauce that may have included fresh coriander. I paired the prawns with a yummy, golden, Vegetable Biryani Rice, that was full of raisins, vegetables, nuts, and I think paneer. There are many vegetarian options. I sipped a Mango Lassi on the side, but the restaurant also has, beer, wine, and coffee.
Service was fast, prices are reasonable, and, if your eyes are bigger than your stomach, and let’s face it they usually are, you can ask for a takeaway container if you want a late-night encore. I think they also do straight take-out if that suits your fancy. I would absolutely...
Read moreI discovered this place over winter 2022/2023. The first time I visited it was basically a food orgasm from start to finish. Every dish was so flavorful and cooked very nicely. We had roughly 50/50 meat and veggie dishes as I prefer veggie, so ordered an array of the house veggie specialities. We were enraptured to such an extent, we deliberately over ordered to be able to take a load home for the following day. Including the rotis which are spot on. I returned again recently with a friend and it was no less delicious. Again we over ordered and took a little bit home to eat at a later date. The service was good and the staff were friendly and polite. I suspect the were a little bemused when we asked to take away our left overs. Not a single bit was wasted I can tell you. So whilst it might not be the cheapest meal in town, the fact we had a second meal out of it certainly added value. I would have taken a photo of the food, but I ate it before I thought of taking a pic...
Read moreVisited on 18.9.2022 tasty food (chicken tikka, karahi chicken) nice staff (English speaking) good service Indian beer was good (brand Cobra)
small space too expensive loud Indian music limited eating time opening times (sadly in most of Azorean restaurants)
The food was good but not spicy, which is a must in Indian cousine. Too expensive in ratio quality/portion of food. The portion of vegetables was a joke, chicken and rice was OK. We were able to get the table even without reservation which was exceptional, but just for 1 hour. Narrow space caused that some old tall dude bumped into my chair several times. Weak 3*.
I don't recommend this restaurant to those who seek a real Indian cuisine and those who does...
