Insultingly Bad
I write less than one bad review per year— it’s not something I like to do. Our experience here was just so bad that I have to warn others.
Maybe the kitchen was in crisis when we went, or the chef was angry… It felt insulting to receive the food we got.
We ordered the Elebe Salad, and it was served with chunks of rock-hard avocados . Whoever was cutting them and putting them into the salad had to be well aware that they were inedible. If you don’t have a key ingredient available for a dish, take it off of the menu, or add a quality substitute — don’t put something in that guests literally cannot eat! In addition to this, many of the salad greens were rotten.
We also received a dish that featured a hard boiled egg. The egg yolk had a dark gray ring around it, an obvious sign that it had been very overcooked. This is another one of those total basics. The smaller, fried egg on my daughter’s soup was hard and rubbery— what’s going on in that kitchen??
We were very clear that my daughter had a gluten allergy, but she was still served soup with croutons in it. One of our entrees also has to be remade because the chef had added bread (at least our server caught that one).
A cod dish came that was very tough and seemed to have been microwaved, with very old, soggy potatoes… Almost nothing tasted fresh or delicious. It seemed that lots of corners were being cut, and diners were treated like we wouldn’t be able to notice the difference. This is unforgivable in most situations, but even worse when you are paying such high prices for everything! The prices were just outrageous for the quality of the food.
We are trying to just forget that meal ever happened— luckily, all of the other great restaurants in Porto make...
Read moreOne of the best place to enjoy fondue and octopus. As I traveled the world, there are a few dishes that I just can't forget about. And one of them was an octopus dish in Greece. It was a restaurant on my way to the Temple of Poseidon. Maybe I was too hungry. Maybe I was drunk on the beautiful Mediterranean ocean. But that late lunch turned out to be one of the highlight of the trip. Since then, I haven't had any octopus dish that I "wow"d. Until today. The three cheese fondue was a great starter. Alone with a glass of white wine, the fondue was just perfect. The portion was good for two people. We ordered wild boar and octopus. The wild boar was good. Just a bit heavy for late dinner and just really A LOT on the taste buds. However, the octopus was just... amazing. It was soft and delicious, along with sweet potatoes puree and caramelized onions, it was just right amount of sweetness to it. Whatever that vegetable (along with beans) added different texture and balanced the overall dish. I wish I can describe the happiness of having a good food better. But, trust me. This place, you want to stop by and enjoy. I was lucky to be seated without a reservation, but you can reserve a table on their website. You can specify 2nd floor if you prefer. On the way to the restaurant, there are some sites you can see, such as, igreja de Santo Ildefonso: the facade is covered in lovely...
Read moreWe came here on the 23rd Feb for my birthday. On arrival there was no tables available, but the lovely lady advised us to come back in 30mins and she would have a table ready. We did just that and I have to say I am so glad we waited and didn't just go somewhere else.! The setting is beautiful We sat upstairs amongst the pretty decor and from the moment we walked in the service was impeccable!! Our lovely waitress was friendly, she informed us on wines and the menu, she was polite and just a lovely young lady. The wine arrived and it was delicious... the starters arrived which we chose the franceshina and the cheese fondue, both were utterly amazing. Then our mains came.... wild boar and grandma's casserole, both presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. The wild boar just melted in your mouth and the steak (grandmas casserole) was as good! I cannot fault the food at all and literally every mouthful was heaven. I had a desert which I can't remember the name of now but it was presented with a candle and a complimentary glass of bubbles for my birthday treat! I honesty cannot express enough how utterly amazing our visit was. And again our server was fantastic. Loved my evening there and if I'm ever back in porto I would not think twice about visiting here again!!! If you want fine food and wine and a perfect environment this is definitely the...
