I've had a few meals there already and the flavours never disapoint; food is very tasty and well prepared. The staff is very nice and polite and make you feel very comfortable.
But...
There's one thing I really struggle to accept and that is the prices of the dishes - they're just a bit too high for what is served. If you go there at lunch the odds of having the day special at around 10 euros are high, and it's a very well done meal that includes main dish, rice, a little salad and a few slices of bread. There are a few meat and vegetarian options, and they are all very nice.
On the other end, if you go there at night, with simple dishes starting at 12 or 14 eur with no rice plus naan, appetizers and a drink and you're well over 30eur and, for maybe 5/10 eur more per person, you're much better off having a dinner at Mendi for example, which is a a high end indian restaurant in a noble part of town. Or, take the subway to Campanhã and go to Indian Tandoori for a slightly more affordable meal at a larger place which can accomodate more friends.
Fortunately, or not, I know pretty much all other indian restaurants in town too, so it's hard not to compare what I get for what I pay, even when the food is good.
These prices are great for tourists I imagine, and still quite affordable, but unfortunately for portuguese (like me) this price range at dinner is just too much for a simple meal. Which is sad, because locals like to eat out too. Otherwise, it would've...
Read moreDuring our recent stay in Porto, we decided to try Aroma of India - Restaurante e Café, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We ordered our food to go and enjoyed it in the comfort of our hotel room, and every bite was a testament to the restaurant’s culinary excellence.
We started with the Vegetable Samosas, which were perfectly crispy and filled with a deliciously spiced vegetable mixture. They were the perfect appetizer to kick off our meal. The Garlic and Cheese Naan was soft, fluffy, and had just the right amount of garlic and cheese, making it an ideal accompaniment to our main dishes.
The Palak Paneer was a standout, with tender cubes of paneer in a creamy spinach sauce that was both rich and flavorful.
The Lamb Biryani Rice was another highlight, featuring tender pieces of lamb cooked to perfection and infused with aromatic spices that made each bite a delight.
The star of our meal was undoubtedly the Lamb Vindaloo. The lamb was incredibly tender, and the sauce had the perfect balance of heat and tanginess, making it a dish we couldn’t get enough of.
Overall, our takeaway experience from Aroma of India was nothing short of spectacular. The food was exceptional, and even though we enjoyed it in our hotel room, it felt like a gourmet dining experience. If you’re in Porto and looking for an authentic Indian meal, Aroma of India is...
