Frida — Restaurant in Porto

Once again, a not very satisfied review for an "ambitious" restaurant in Porto that does not confirm the expectations. Let's start with the good things. The place is supernice, wonderfully decorated and with amazing tables, chairs, design. This is something that we really value a lot, it is possible to see the owners truly invested money and time to create a space that reflect both the Mexican set of the place and her personal taste. Now, what was disappointing. We ordered guacamole, tacos gobernador, tamales, pescado tatemado and mixiote de pollo. Guacamole: good guacamole but you can't serve, for 6 euro 50, a basket of "totopos" (fried tortillas) that size. There were around 20 totopos in...come on...this is shameful and unnnecessary, since it is not something particularly expensive for the the restaurant to make. Tacos gobernador: tacos texture was definitely not very good, we supposed the problem is to find a good corn in Portugal. Ingredients of the taco were ok but, again, for an 11 euros taco I do not expect "ok", I expect "wow". Tamales: not well cooked, impossible to feel the ingredients that was supposedly mixed with (cheese and pepper). Pescado tatemado: the best dish of the night. Fish was amazingly prepared, well spiced, greatly presented. Mixiote de pollo: chicken was overcooked, sauces not to comment. We also asked for a mezcal to finish the dinner, a great mezcal but 10 euro for a very small shot. Delicious food, beautiful interior and artificially nice, snobbish waiters! I went there with my wife to have a proper, Mexican dinner as I felt in love with Mexican food in San Diego last year. I mentioned to the waiters that I am a simple guy looking for a Mexican flavors (like burrito, tacos etc). One of them explained that this is a "real" Mexican restaurant and american burritos and tacos are not :) I humbly agreed and we sat. My wife then told my they were laughing at me and rolling their eyes just behind my back at the counter (probably thinking they are serving another hill billy who thinks burritos and tacos is a good, Mexican food :) ) I was really surprised cause they felt really nice and welcoming at first. I don't mind somebody laughing at me but at least they should do it more discretely. While they were serving us they were trying to be super nice and I still returned the kindness but then I saw they are treating a couple next to us in the same way - super kind and elegant when speaking with them and then giving each other those humiliating looks behind their backs. This was one of the few times in my entire life when I didn't tip. The food was super delicious and fresh, drinks were too. The interior is beautiful and very cozy. A lot of accurate and subtle references to Frida, her life and Mexico (both in the menu and in the restaurant). It is a bit expensive but I think the taste of the food and the way of serving it is worth it. If only the waiters were not so snobbish, two-face, arrogant waiters it would...

I HIGHLY DON’T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE

The WORST customer service. We arrived at 7:30 and their answer was with out booking they don’t accept anyone else. ( completely understandable) we asked if we could wait and see if the next booking didn’t show up and we can take it, but they just rejected and said no stray away, (8:00pm was the next booking according with the waitress) the reason why we choose the place was for the reviews so, we insisted!! Again we asked the waitress; we are happy to wait for an hour but we just get the same answer IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. ( this is for real???? )

-We finally order take away they packed the ceviche with out any cutlery. -The margaritas with not alcohol basically lemonade with ice. -The food was not very good quality and was overpriced.

THE BEST !!!! But after an hour and half we walked trough the restaurant and for our surprise the restaurant was empty ( I mean the 8:00 pm booking didn’t arrive and the time was 8:45 pm).
