Amazing Portuguese tapas! Such a cute restaurant owned by a super nice gentleman who clearly loves owning a restaurant. Said he did 25 years in banking and now he’s doing what he loves. It really shows in the attention to detail and masterful flavors on the menu.
We were welcomed in right away at 730, which is early in Porto for dinner so the place was empty. It filled throughout the night and some people were turned away. The owner also speaks every imaginable language! I saw him speaking not only English and Portuguese but also Italian and French.
I couldn’t believe, but we stayed there all the way to 10:20. We slowly enjoyed the food as advised. We each had a glass of the green wine which is really nice and refreshing and light. Extremely generous pour as well. We had the mushroom and mozzarella cheese dish. The mozzarella was so gooey. It is a delicious combo. We also had bread and olive oil. The bread is so soft and the olive oil with the balsamic is really good. I never tasted balsamic so sweet. The tapas also came with crunchy bread crisps that were nice and buttery. We had Alheira, traditional Portuguese sausage that has chicken, bread, rabbit and duck in it! It was delicious the flavors just melt in your mouth. And naturally the sausage kind of falls a part all over the bread. Very good.
We finished the night with two pieces of cake and port wine. The port wine was tawny and from Calem and very good. Both chocolate cakes were filling and rich. Went really well with the port. One of the cakes, the taller slice with tan frosting is a chocolate caramel crunch cake and the other is all different layers of chocolate. Both were wonderful, I think I prefer the totally chocolate one if I had to choose.
The place is a rustic chic and very homey at the same time. There were some things on the menu, like the steak and the lemon cake, that they did not have that day. Overall one of the best dining experience I ever had! And not just in Porto but in my life. I felt welcomed like I was going over a friend’s house. The food is of great quality and I could taste the love put into it! Also prices were so reasonable, only 35 for two people. We left stuffed. I would love...
Read moreHere’s my review of Have a Bite – Drinks & Tapas in Porto, complete with authentic vibes, five carefully selected photos, and no external references:
I dropped into Have a Bite one lively evening and instantly loved the warm, relaxed ambiance. Soft lighting, exposed brick walls, and a polished wooden bar create a casual yet inviting atmosphere—perfect for unwinding with friends over drinks and small plates.
I began with a sharing board of Iberian charcuterie and local-cheese varieties, served alongside fresh focaccia and olives. The flavors were bold and satisfying without being heavy. Next came the shrimp in garlic and chili—with just the right kick of spice—and a beautifully grilled mushroom tapa drizzled with herb oil. Each bite showcased fresh ingredients and careful execution.
Drinks were well paired: a crisp Portuguese white wine complemented the seafood, while a smoky red brought out the depth of the charcuterie. Portions suited tasting, so it was easy to enjoy several dishes and drinks without feeling stuffed.
The staff were friendly and attentive—checking in regularly without rushing the experience and offering recommendations when asked. Their genuine enthusiasm for the food and drinks added to the relaxed vibe.
If you’re in Porto and craving a tapas-style evening with quality dishes and good wine in a cozy setting, Have a Bite is a great find. I’ll certainly be returning to explore more of their menu—and maybe linger a bit...
Read moreWow, just simply amazing! Never imagined this would be the highlight of our trip to Portugal. This tiny but cozy restaurant has limited room for tables but it definitely does not bother the owner and the waitress to spend some time with their guests. We felt very comfortable and admired all the art that was coming out of the kitchen. Oh my, did they deliver! We had sardines pate with toast, followed up with the codfish croquettes and salad. After this the smoked salmon board. And lastly we had the desserts. There was nothing we could find that needed improvement. The portion was perfect and the quality second to none. We tried many Bacalhau in the few days we have spent in Portugal but man! This taste was surreal! And to our surprise, we were able to order this as a take away! Now we can even enjoy it in our room as breakfast! The owner and the staff really put their hearts into all the dishes. You can tell it’s created with love and passion. Keep it up! 😇 many more people from all over the world should really...
