I recently had lunch at Sabor Da Fazenda in Porto and it turned out to be one of those spots that feel like a true local secret. The place has a warm, relaxed atmosphere with simple decor and a clear focus on good, honest food. It's family-run, and you can feel that from the way you're welcomed.
I started with a bowl of fish soup—rich, full of flavor, and clearly homemade. For the main dish, I went with grilled octopus, and it was perfect: tender, slightly crispy on the outside, and served with potatoes and olive oil. I also tried a bite of their francesinha, which was generous, spicy, and deeply comforting.
The portions are big, the prices are affordable, and the food feels like it was cooked with care. You won’t find anything pretentious here—just solid Portuguese cooking done right.
Service was warm and efficient. Even during the lunch rush, the staff took time to check in and explain dishes to guests unfamiliar with local specialties.
If you're in Porto and looking for traditional Portuguese food in a friendly, laid-back setting, Sabor Da Fazenda is absolutely worth visiting. I’ll be going back for the grilled...
Read moreWhile I didn't make it for the €8 meal of the day (and it's such a wonderful deal, you get so much for so little, but it ends uhm around 15:00 I forgot), I still highly recommend the place.
During our honeymoon trip my wife tried octopus at 3 other places, high end restaurants charging a fortune. She says this place beat them all, and at €16 only. This was the first and only time I actually liked it too!
I ordered grilled golden fish (it was huge for a golden fish, €13), we got some traditional sausage and soup and chocolate mousse and some egg dessert and 2 soft drinks and a shot of local strong alcohol and bread as well - these were also really good, and we paid €47 in total - unbelievable.
The staff was super friendly, engaging in conversation, talking about the food, the city, best places for franchesina, kids etc.
The prices are good, and during the lunch time they are just unbelievable. And it's not as far from the city centre as one...
Read moreCosy local eatery. Customers seemed to be mainly locals from different walks of life - from workers in uniform for a quick bite to old folks from the neighborhood for a relaxing meal. We were the only tourists there. :). The young waiter spoke good English and was courteous. Food quality was top class. Special Francesinha is highly recommended - generous serving with lots of ingredients! Grilled octopus was tender and fresh. Both dishes were full of flavour. They might be a bit on the salty side for Asian’s palate but I think it’s acceptable by general Europe standard and definitely not a deal breaker for me; the potatoes, side veggies somehow balanced out the saltiness. Their coffee was great too. Its local flavour differentiates from the usual espresso based drinks you get from a typical modern cafe, it was stronger and hotter in terms of temperature. It’s must-try after the...
