I'll be honest, this place doesn't look interesting when passing by, but once you enter, you'll change your mind! The restaurant on the inside is quite homely, and has quite a special look, some statues hanging from the walls, and I really liked the way they decorated the place. Another thing I really loved was the fact we can see the person grilling/frying our meat! Really nice! The service... I can't praise it enough, by far the second best service in the whole city of Porto, second to Cana Verde. The waiters are really funny, friendly and caring! Amazing!! The food is also really good here, by far, the best rice I have had in Porto! Not to say that the rest wasn't good, it definitely was! My partner, my mother and I loved every single bit of our orders! If you're in Porto and hungry for really good food and looking forward to having amazing service, this is the right place! Super happy that I was able to find this place today for lunch.

Our first dine in breakfast in Portugal. unfortunately our selections was not one of them. I don’t know if they serve warm breakfast in Porto. Our breakfast consist of ham cheese egg sandwich (sliced boiled egg in the sandwich) I thought maybe it would be freshly made warm sandwiches, but no it’s from their plastic wrap sandwiches from their display counter totally not good for dining inside that’s is only good for take out orders. Cappuccino was good, we also ordered pasteis de nata which was cold. Our breakfast cost more than €18, gave the server €22,00. 4 star is very generous!!! Hmm not sure if I would come back to this establishment. So

This place deserve a review, unfortunately a bad one. We had 2 beers, when we asked for the the bill, the waiter did not bring us any bill, only came and asked for 5,50 EUR in a very weird way. It was a strange feeling. I have a lesson, always ask for the bill. I wouldn’t go there again. Note: We are on a road trip for 5 weeks (France, Spain, Portugal) and this happened to us for the first time.

The Tropical Cafe is and has been our favorite place in Oporto since me and my now wife stumbled upon it on our first trip together 8 years ago. Hands down our favorite francesinha in Oporto. Same chef and same server since the beginning and man are these guys great. We always feel welcome and almost a part of the family. I highly suggest this easy going spot for dinner after the crowds have left. Classic Portuguese eatery with a great view. Always looking forward to the return and always sending new friends...
