This place really has some very high quality artisanal local food, I honestly couldn’t believe the prices were so low relative to the quality. Also, great vegetarian options- I was nervous to pick this place, and dang did they beat my expectations with a delicious all vegetarian meal.
Our opener, bread and olives, was served with a local blend of Sintra goat and sheep milk cheese alongside herbed butter, absolutely delicious. Then we had a very nice legume soup, which they were kind enough to split into two bowls for my wife and I. When I ordered fried green beans, my expectations were low, the delivery was amazing! They prepared them in a really cool tempura batter with a delicious sauce, worthy of some of the best restaurants I’ve been in. We also had delicious padrone peppers, I couldn’t stop eating them. Finally, for desert, a chocolate mouse that knocked my socks off, one of the best I’ve ever had. Great wine selection and recommendations from our server as well.
Don’t be deceived by the plastic laminated menu and highly reasonable prices- this place delivers quality on par with places charging three to four times as much and was one of the best meals I’ve had in Portugal, really impressive work with local producers, traditional dishes, and innovative approaches to food.
And by the way, atmosphere and music was great both inside and outside! Great dining rooms in both places, super nice open welcoming pleasant vibes across them all, and it felt spacious in a good...
Read moreMyself & My Friend, stumbled upon Volta e Meia by accident. We were looking for somewhere to have dinner on the way to the Historic Centre of Sintra, The captivating aromas coming from the Restaurant stopped us in our tracks. We found a stair way down to Volta e Meia, where we found a beautiful outdoor terrace, we chose a table inside. The Menu sounded great, we ordered fillet Steak bites, they arrived with a fabulous topping of pickled red onions, mushrooms with Rosemary, Codfish Cakes, caramelised pear & nut salad and fries, all of these dishes are to share, everything was delicious & beautifully presented, we had Red wine from the Douro region, also so good. We finished with a chocolate and walnut mousse with grape strawberry and pomegranate. It was michelin star worthy! The Chef & Owner Ricardo is an amazing Talent, and very cortious. The Restaurant was so good we returned the next evening, and would have gone again the following evening but unfortunately Volta e Meia was closed on Tuesday. The waiter Joao was very attentive and professionally polite. Do yourself a favour and visit Volta e Meia you will not be...
Read moreWe had the most wonderful dining experience here. To start with - our server David was welcoming, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the food. Thank you for taking such good care of us, David!
There were 4 of us so we ordered lots of bites to share and loved every one of them. We tried the couvert, padron peppers, garlic shrimp, queijo gratinado, pica pau, fried cuttlefish, rosemary mushrooms, sweet potato chips, and fries. Everything was fantastic and if we could have sampled the whole menu, we definitely would have.
If the great service and food wasn’t enough to sway you to come eat here, their patio is lovely as well. It’s tucked down below the street level and feels cozy and hidden away with just the right amount of lighting. Thank you to the whole team at Volta e Meia for a wonderful meal. To those of you perusing Google and planning your Sintra visit, I wholeheartedly recommend that you save some time to eat here...
