Era Restaurant & Cafe — Restaurant in Doha

It is with sadness that I write this review, as a coffee professional myself with training in sensory, Quality Control, coffee roasting, brewing, milk science, water science and technical such as Barista, I like to support my fellow professionals and explore different coffee environments. But today I was saddened when I popped into Era for a coffee like everyone else. Instead of being sincerely hospitable I was nagged to have my coffee as a takeaway and my money thrown infront of me and Arabic spoken infront of me about me. I chose not to response or say anything but to remain calm. If as professionals, we cannot treat each other with dignity in the same industry then I don't think we are being genuinely hospitable if our hospitability is selective. The African lady barista who made me the V60 was very kind and the coffee she made was great but the Arabic guy with glasses definitely gave me the worst experience to remember regardless of me spending my own money. The atmosphere is nice and the location is good!

At the same time, very poor restaurant management, I would even say alarming! For the price paid (i.e., aligned with top-tier restaurants in Doha) they offload responsibility to the operational staff. For example, they failed to mention in the menu the contents of the dish and that it contains mushrooms, I have realised that when the order has been served. Instead of solving the issue from their side (clearly it's mgmt's fault to create a menu which doesn't provide ingridients), they are just making waiters pay for their fault. Moreover there is no manager available at the restaurant at all times, junior staff is left with the guests problems on their own.

Again, junior staff acts amazing, the problem is with very poor and irresponsible restaurant...

The place is amazing it has a nice vibe to it, the decorations and the overall atmosphere is really peaceful and encouraging to have a good conversation with delightful people lol.

We ordered an Americano and Matcha, the Americano was decent not the best roast but it was average, however we instructed them to make the matcha less sweet and it wasn't so we asked them to do it again and they got back to us with straight milk drink with small trace's of matcha , we had to ask again to put more matcha it was a big deal, however they did there best to accommodate our needs.

We also ordered one of their deserts (Vanilla raspberry Éclair, it was on point I loved it as it wasn't very sweet and it had almost fresh raspberries.

Nice experience overall, will definitely not go...
