Since we're both fans of Japanese cuisine, we wanted to give Yuki a try for our anniversary. We had made a reservation in advance, but to our surprise, the restaurant was empty; we were the only customers when we arrived. The light-haired waitress who greeted us was truly warm and friendly. She even spoke good Japanese. The menus were unique, with photos in a photo book, making it quite difficult to understand what the set included, but the waitress was happy to explain, so we ordered a set, a main course and a dessert. The food arrived in approximately 40 minutes, again surprisingly, because there were only three tables occupied at the time. Furthermore, the chopsticks weren't placed on the table; the food remained on the table, getting cold, until we saw one of the staff and asked for them. We specifically stated that we didn't want the set to include eggplant, and it did. We didn't raise this issue, but we didn't eat it either. The second waitress, the dark-haired one, was the one who served us. Unfortunately, we didn't feel the same warmth and found her somewhat rude. The chicken was our favorite; for the pork, only the sauce was good. The ramen soup didn't really meet my expectations. It was too salty and had a strange aftertaste. Dessert was a strawberry daifuku, another disappointment. The bathroom was too small for its own good. My recommendation would be a single non-gendered bathroom, where you have the necessary space to finish your business. I don't know if I recommend making a reservation beforehand, given the fact that it was empty, but at the same time, the dark-haired waitress was rude and snapping to people without a reservation. I don't think we will be...
Read moreI recently visited Yuki restaurant, a place I had heard many good things about. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected, and it wasn't the food that left a sour taste in my mouth – it was the service.
Upon arrival, we discovered that our reservation had been mixed up, leaving us without a table. Mistakes happen, and I understand that, but it was the restaurant's attitude towards the error that was truly disappointing. Instead of offering a sincere apology or trying to find a solution, the staff seemed indifferent to our situation.
Although I was already seated at the table, they made me get up and leave saying that the table was reserved to someone else. In fact, it was their mistake and I expected some effort to remedy their initial mistake, maybe an effort to set up another table for us, or at least a suggestion to come back another day with a guaranteed table. But there was nothing.
It's not just about the mix-up with the reservation; it's about how a business responds to such situations. A simple acknowledgment of the mistake or a small effort to make it right would have gone a long way in changing our perception of the evening.
I left Yuki feeling undervalued as a customer, which is a shame because the setting and the food had the potential to make for a wonderful evening. It's crucial for restaurants to understand that the dining experience extends beyond the food to the entire atmosphere...
Read moreYuki is one of our favourite places to visit. It's comfortable, familiar and absolutely delicious. We usually have dinner here, as their ramen and miso soup never fail to heal you. Each and every time we are fulfilled and happy after a hearty dinner and impeccable atmosphere. A good thing to note here is that they do not serve sushi, but home-made style dishes from casual Japanese cuisine. All little dishes have small portion sizes so you can combine and mix them to your liking. We encourage you to try something new, you'll be surprised how flavourful these are. While I see some negative reviews regarding service, we have always loved the staff here. It's supposed to feel like your invited in someone's home and they're trying to be the best host possible, and they excel at this honestly: welcoming you as you enter, small jokes and great recommendations, always warm and welcoming, the little ritual of thanking you for your visit as you leave - it all feel authentic and comforting. And as a small side note: the kimchi is perfectly spicy, the fish and shrimp cooked perfectly and all the sauces enhance flavours perfectly, making a dish as simple as a tonkatsu so much more complex...
