EDIT2: The chef called me to say he felt sorry, and offered to give us a roll platter. It was better than what we ate previously (the Tokyo platter, nigiri only). We both enjoyed the rolls. I am curious to know if this platter we received has a name on the website, as we would be interested to order it in the future. Indications for the chef: I feel the signature magnum opus platter (the 600 lei one) needs to have 30% to 50% rolls incorporated in it, to have it be more balanced, while removing some of the sub-par nigiri (the white/gray ones, some tuna ones). The octopus and calamari nigiri were good, as was the "grilled" salmon nigiri. A nigiri-only platter seems too heavy. We are not interested in paying a high price for rare fish, we are interested in paying a high price for the expertise of the chef, and for great taste and craftsmanship of sushi. If the fish is rare and hard to get, that does not make it good or desirable for us. Indications for the site owner: The site really needs to have better communication and error messages and show all buttons to add order, as initially we wanted to order rolls (pre 12:00 o clock) and I thought they were out of stock since they were missing "Add to order". Also, the checkout page needs to have a "Restaurant opens at 12" big red box error, instead of the "Please accept terms and conditions" text that I received when I tried to order at 11:00 o clock. I had to call the number to understand what was happening. Please test the user experience on the site pre-12'o'clock, as that is where most people decide what to order, and the frustration caused will make other people simply order from tazz or glovo instead.
EDIT: This time we were disappointed. After paying 500 lei for the tokyo sushi platter, the quality was not up to par, and the taste and freshness was mediocre. Do not order the big sushi platters, and just order rolls instead.
Old review: Literary the best sushi in town. My girl Gifted me a feast for my birthday, delivered from here. On the expensive side, but you'll see after you are done eating. Two levels of magnitudes in terms of cooking skill above every other sushi place in a 500km radius. Truly level 9/10 (and level 10 means world class to me). I would like to bring my parents here someday and maybe even visit them in person, as until now I have only...
Read moreI've been visiting this restaurant every once in a while for years. Today the service and quality of the food were amazing, as always (I didn't realize I hadn't left a review until now).
This is one of the (unfortunately) very rare places I know of in Cluj where I am confident I won't be let down when I return, and that's why I prefer Tokyo over other places for special moments.
I've become more and more appreciative of places that are able to offer the same great food and service constantly, irrespective of the time of year or how busy the restaurant is.
I've been to Tokyo on quiet afternoons or on days when every table was booked and I noticed no difference in the experience - and that's just one of the things I love about this restaurant.
The food tastes amazing, in particular the seafood is well prepared and always fresh, and you can have sakuramochi for desert!
The menu is varied and can offer a great experience of Japanese cuisine. It's even possible to order dishes consisting of smaller portions of various entrees and deserts, a really nice idea for those of us who have a hard time deciding what to order.
The staff are always ready to offer a smile and good advice, and they seem to know everything there is to know about the menu.
The atmosphere is intimate and quiet, with airy rooms that take your mind off the cluttered city, and the music is soothing and not too loud. I've noticed people tend to speak in hushed tones, and that can be a welcome change from the usual types of places where you need to raise your voice over the music and over the voices of people at other tables, but you do need to be in the mood for it.
There is more I could say about Tokyo, but it's probably better to visit them and discover for yourselves a place that strives to offer perfection in the smallest details, and, at least in my opinion, achieves it.
Thank you for a wonderful evening and for the care and attention to details you always...
Read moreBased on my boyfriend and my opinions, this is the best Japanese Restaurant in town.
What we like to usually get is the Salmon Japanese Sushi Boat, as it has a bit of everything: sashimi, rolls, sushi, tempura, Miso soup and salad. We usually pair it with some Jasmine Tea and Genmai Cha (rise tea).
To finish off, we usually get the Matcha Cheesecake (we usually take it to go).
The portions here are quite generous usually, you can get your fill here. It is by no means cheap, but the quality of the ingredients is clear as day, you can really feel the freshness of that salmon (ofc, as fresh as toy can get it here, in the middle of land), but from what I talked with the waiters, they receive fresh fish produce every day.
Now, the waiters. Damn, they are the best that you can find out there. They usually know everything that is on the menu and what it is specifically. When they serve you, they ask you if you want an explanation of what you have. If they don't know smth, they almost immediately go and ask the chef.
This time, they got some new fresh ingredients which they recommend to us. We tried the sea urchin sushi which we actually quite enjoyed. It has a very creamy and surprisingly nice texture. You almost don't feel any fishiness from it.
Others things we've tried on different occasions, and are a definite try: eel with rice, salmon zanmai, salmon roe sushi, scallops Saint Jacques, Gyoza, Ramen (they have big portions, so have your...
