Two poor reviews that I noticed here said something along the lines of:
I've lived in Bratislava my whole life and the prices here are not Bratislava prices. This place is a rip-off.
This was a strange place. Being here felt like being in a fake movie scene.
I can relate to such poor reviews. Here is my own experience of this place:
I was in Bratislava for a few days enjoying the lovely quaint vibes, good weather and cheap beer. On my last night in Bratislava I made the mistake of wandering into this place. I wandered around town late at night after most of the pubs had closed, the pubs were closed early because it was a Bank Holiday, however this place was open. From the outside I could see a few people sitting inside and it seemed like there was nightclub music playing.
The design of the place along with the waiters immediately suggest that this is one of those places where people sniff cocaine in designer clothes. It doesn't feel at all like a traditional Slovak venue, but rather a decadent hotel nightclub for the type of tourists that go to places like Ibiza. I think its actually part of a hotel?
Such a scene is not really my thing but for the sake of a late-night drink and an adventure I went inside. There was only a handful of customers inside and I formed the idea that they were staying in the hotel (like I said, this place seems to be attached to a hotel). The weirdest thing about it was that there was a big table reserved, nobody could sit at it, and on this table rested a plaque with "The Boss" written on it. Who was this Boss - I do not know, but the way the staff conducted themselves, and the way all the customers sat around posing like they were celebrities, kind of suggested that The Boss was some sort of reality TV star that could arrive at any minute, perhaps draped in gold chains and Gucci features.
I asked if I could have a beer. The waiter eyed me up as if to check that I was cool enough to be here. I asked if I could have a beer. I was told that would be possible, but the only beer they have is bottled Corona. I said fine. I was served a beer, but was not told how much it would cost. The waiter suggested I could keep ordering drinks and pay for all of them at the end of the night. This was a nice sleazy trick, but I sensed this place was a rip-off so I proffered payment on the spot. At this point I was told the price was âŹ6! This price is an insane rip-off given that you can get a pint of craft beer in a real Slovak pub for âŹ2.
This place is incongruous with real authentic Slovak culture. It does not fit with genuine Bratislava culture. Sadly I see this place as one of the signs that Bratislava will possibly be gobbled up by tacky Western-tourism culture in...
Read moreI arrived late from the airport and stayed in the nearby hotel. Not a lot of options in the area at 01:00 am for beer and Shisha. The price for beers - 7⏠I would say itâs fair while the bar is located in the city center. The Shisha wasnât really good, I asked for combination of apple and mint, I didnât feel any mint, then asked him to add mint, he tried to avoid but then agreed, though it remained the same đ The Shisha is really over priced - 25âŹ. Another issue that itâs apparently not part of the bar services, and need to pay to the Shisha guy only cash (nobody said in advance, only after it was served). I tried to ask to pay in card as I didnât know, but the guy said to me if you donât have, there is a nearby ATM, so good that I had few Euros on me to avoid extra ATM fees. Israel has a rich culture of Shisha smoking, so I can confirm itâs not the right place for Shisha. However, the music is good, young environment and the place is well designed. I canât give my opinion about other foods and drinks, as I didnât order any, but as it seems from the side people enjoyed from what they ordered. The waitress couldnât accept tips by card, so prepare a bit cash in advance if you...
Read moreThe atmosphere was excellent. Even though we went on a weekday, the place was quite crowded. You can enjoy both shisha and drinks here. Shisha and beverages are served separately, and their costs are charged individually. I liked both the shisha and the cocktails. I chose a cocktail called âHedgehogâ and it was served in a hedgehog-shaped glass. Shisha prices are around âŹ25, and the cocktail and drink prices are not overly expensive. It seems like thereâs a hotel above the bar, and you can access it directly from inside. Thereâs also a parking lot, which is convenient. Overall, itâs a nice place, and I...
